Last Film You Saw

Been to see 'Boyhood' tonight.

Brilliant film. Basically following a boy, Mason, grow up and go through his adolescent life. The film was shot over 12 years with the same cast.

Not something you will see every day. Makes you look at your own life and realise how quickly it goes by.

I'm really looking forward to this one, it opens here in a few weeks.

Bad Words thought it was quite funny 6/10
Sabotage actually got slated at the cinema but I thought it was one if Arnies better ones to date, 7/10

Watched 'Control' last evening. A film covering the rise of Joy Division and the eventual suicide of their City supporting lead singer Ian Curtis.

What really adds to the impact is the film is in black and white. If you have seen 24 hour party people but was less than impressed with the Curtis suicide references then this will not disappoint.

Must watch for any 45+ just for the nostalgia.

Just finished watching 'Stand by Me' and god I love that film. Probably watched it over 100 times and still enjoy it just as much every time I see it. Definitely my all time favourite movie.

"Kozure Okami" (The Sword of Revenge, 1972).

Thought I would revisit my film roots and influences and these Kenji Musumi films are STILL stylish and stand out for their filmography and feudal Japan samurai plots. If you don't know the story, a Kaishaunin (Itto Ogami, the only Samurai allowed represent the Shogun in order to behead Lords of clans) gets set up by a lower order rank leader, Retsudo (the Yagyu Clan or the Shikakunin) in order to gain power.

They kill his wife and he leaves the Samurai Way in order to exact brutal vengeance. He takes with him his son, Daigoro(who can be no more than 5!), who silently witnesses his father's wrath. "The Sword of Revenge" (or Vengeance) is the first of the films adapted from the TV series of the same name. There are some highly striking imagery and experimentation with sight and sound(by accident or design, I don't know) and it sends of you off kilter looking for what's not there. Excellent stuff!!

This was a golden era of film making in Japan that inspired a few Hollywood remakes and consequently making global icons of the actors that starred in them.

Just about to watch ""Kozure Okami" (Baby Cart at the River Styx)" now!!

Slingblade (1996) 7.5/10

Starts off very well, sort of loses pace but bloody hell I thought the acting was good. Couldn't believe it was Billy-Bob Thornton actually.
