Hey, I like Froome, but he ain't exactly bursting with a vibrant personality. However, that doesn't appear to have stopped people voting for 'dullards' before. I think the problem is that we've had that much success in cycling the British public have become accustomed to our riders winning and don't see it as anything special. Christ, 3 TdF wins and the headlines will be about fucking cricket or a football transfer!
Look at Cavendish. 30 stage wins, and at one point he won on the Champs Elysees 4 times in a row, and most Brits would walk past him in the street.
It's been a brilliant perforqmce from Chris and the Sky Team. Regarding the Sports personality of the Year. I think it might be more to do with Froomey being a bit quiet like you said. Cav won the SPOTY in 2011 and Brad in 2012. It's also true that Chris has come on the scene when we had already become a cycling powerhouse, unlike Murray who won the tennis holy grains of Wimbledon and the Davis Cup.
It is true that expectations are very high for our cyclists so I think Froomey may need a strong showing at the Olympics as well to be a top contender for SPOTY.
