League One Thread - 2021/22 | Sunderland promoted

I only ever saw Roberts play for City at Sunderland in the LC in 2015 I think, so a big coincidence the first time I hear about him this year is scoring for them.

I think Sunderland enjoy being rained on at Stanley too much to go up, and WW with beat them. It will be a strong L1 fans wise if they stay down with Derby going for it with new owners, SW, BW, Barnsley.

I was impartial to who won this game as ive always had a soft spot for both.
Sunderland after their amazing fans behaviour at maine road when they went down in 92 ish(?). Amazing support that day that ill never forget.
And Wednesday after someone gave me the subbuteo team when i was little.

good luck to both.

Bloody tough on Wednesday but great for Sunderland but it's the play offs. I hate the play offs. We were third by a mile remember. In truth Milton Keynes should have gone through even though they should not be in the league due to a great injustice.
I've no problem with MKD being in the league. But they should be called Wimbledon and be based in South West London.

Everybody knows at the beginning of the season how the playoffs are so no complaints from me. I mentioned to a mate the other day is the National League playoff structure fairer?

2nd & 3rd get a bye
4th play 7th, 5th play 6th (1 leg)

2nd play lowest ranked winner (1 leg)
3rd play highest ranked winner (1 leg)

Winners play final

Apparently the clubs wanted it but the Premier League blocked it as they didn't want a team finishing 8th (as it would be in Championship) getting promoted as it could "weaken" their product.

Our forum is like the wild west tonight with the "Moore Out" brigade gunning for him with both barrels. When we win it's the players, when we lose it's the manager.

That sounds oddly familiar to me.

Always liked Wednesday because of the name. Totally irrational. Don't tend to like your neighbours again purely because of the name. Anything with ‘United’ in it I'm suspicious of.
I'm old enough to remember the Kay scandal. As a kid, I was shocked, and quite fascinated. Knew that kind of thing happened in wrestling and boxing, but in football?! You believe a lot of things when you're ten.

cheers bud

He'll be ok, he's up for work at 6:30 that always gives you a quick slice of reality back :)

Like anything you dust yourself down, give the internet a wide berth for a few days and go again.

Will be someone elses turn at the weekend to have a shit time.
It's so predictable. It's not like Wednesday played badly either, but then some of your fans do seem to have this thing about Moore that if he doesn't get you into the Championship with the squad you have, he should be binned off. And replaced by who, exactly? Kneejerk sacking of managers does not help. I should know. As should any Watford fan. And Moore wasn't solely responsible for Wednesday getting relegated, did we forget the lack of wins under Pulis?

Over to you now, Sunderland. Everton and Sunderland have a bit of an affinity - we've got Reid, Pickford, Moyes, Oviedo, Pienaar, Vaughan and Rodwell in common, plus we both have annoying rivals (and the Geordies hate Pickford, a lot).

Personally I put a lot of the blame on Garry Monk, we all know how the chairman made a balls of the finances playing Fantasy Football between Summer 2016 & January 2017.

But in the 19/20 season we were 3rd on Christmas day, ok we were punching above our weight a little but after Boxing Day our form fell off a cliff. Monk fell out with Keiren Westwood (our No 1 Keeper) & Sam Hutchinson (lad who went off with head injury last night) and they were removed from 1st team squad.

With the charge from the EFL looming for breaching FFP if we'd have had any decent form the 12 point deduction would have been added that season which wouldn't have mattered as we would have still stayed up, instead it dragged on and on and we survived by 8 points. They couldn't give us 12 which would have then seen us relegated instead it was applied the following season.

Starting on -12 meant we were unable to attract players to the club as they didn't want to risk going down, one example was Jackson Irvine who had played in championship for Burton & Hull and ended up going to somewhere in the SPL.

Ultimately we went down, and will spend at least another season in League 1.

"Brewery" I'd like to introduce you to "piss-up" :)

Derby are still in a bit of bother and I doubt they will throw money at it anyhow ........ think Barnsley are the same with there owners ............Wigan was always gonna have the money to buy there way out of it and Rotherham are your yo yo yo club .......... then two going for me make it a lot weaker and if Wednesday can keep the majority of that squad together then I can see have a very good season next term
