Leaving the game early

I left bang on 90 because our trains are that shit I didn't want to wait at a train station getting pissed wet through for an hour for the sake of 5 minutes.

Football attendance ain't what it was and never will be again.

Once the day dawned that you had to think about what you said/chanted, that was the beginning of the change.

It used to be raw. Now it's sanitised. It used to be cheap, now it costs a king's ransom. It used to be dominated by young, working-class guys, now it's dominated by the comfortably orf and tourists.

Just as it is, for good or ill.
We certainly seem to be reaching a/the tipping point, don’t we?!

From my viewpoint, it seems to me that there is enough room for everyone…because it was ALWAYS like this, even at Maine Road!

To me, there was a definite “stepping up” system even at Maine Rd.

Want a cheap ticket, to sing, be able to be with a few mates, maybe shuffle down towards whichever end we were kicking (if you are not a hard core “this is my spot!” kinda fan)? Then, you can stand with your friends and our most raucous fans in the Kippax, no matter your age, knowing there will be enough space for everyone in your party!

Prefer a covered seat behind the goal, sir? Not a problem, no matter how little you think you have. We have the best value seats available anywhere, with our plank seats in the Platt Land End. They’re always warm and dry and you’ll stay out of the elements.

Perhaps you’d like an inch or two more leg and elbow room and a flexible plastic seat (though there’s a good chance you’ll get wet when it rains!) with unrestricted views? We’ve got just the thing for you with our new, slightly more expensive, seats in the North Stand.

A man of means, are you? Well then, we have just what you desire. You can upgrade to one of our gentlemen’s seats in the Main Stand. You will have access to the ground from the main forecourt, with better, covered eating and drinking opportunities (no running down to the Bovril man on the cinder track or standing in line in the rain for you, sir!). It is a wholly more civilized experience with other men of your age and standing. You might even run into an old player or celebrity and you’ll never get wet at the game.

So, what’ll it be, sir?!

:-)

To me, City have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity now they’re finishing the stadium. There needs to be a clear and obvious delineation for fans…

There are enough spaces in the stadium that we should be able to accommodate all ticket pricing levels, such that at least HALF of the match day tickets on a 60,000 capacity stadium in “fan-friendly” pricing and there are plenty of “corporate, well-heeled, better services and seat quality” seats available.

Main stand main stand give us a song.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ive heard all the excuses about leaving the etihad early, from got to get the kids to bed early, traffic, look after sick relative, work etc but fuck me can anyone tell me why you'd go all the way to lisbon and want to leave with 15 mins left. Total disrespect to the players and any poor sods who couldn't get a ticket

There were plenty in Lisbon with tickets who didn’t make the first 75 minutes, never mind the last 15.

Always wondered why people care so much about people leaving a few mins early.

I almost learned my lesson the VERY hard way in ‘99 and my brother “saved” me, so never again for me. However, to each their own, especially given the absolute mess it is getting away from the Etihad after a game.

We have a rapidly aging fan base and some of them need extra time to save themselves an extra 30-60 minute drive time if they left 10 mins later. Doesn’t make you less of a City fan.

There is a paradox in aspects of this thread, and others about atmosphere etc. On the one hand, rightly in my view, people are irritated by the sanitisation of football, to the extent that there is now an endless list of do’s and dont’s, with bans and ticket suspensions for transgressions. On the other hand, we have blues wanting to dictate how others watch the match, to the extent that one suggestion above is to deduct loyalty points from people who leave early. Really, what next, deduct points from people who don’t sing? The fan base of a large football club is a broad church with an age range from young kids to the elderly, people have good reasons for doing what they do, health, transport issues, finance and so on. Let’s not start adding to the layers of regulation imposed by the government and the ‘football family’, by wanting to also regulate ourselves based on somebody’s interpretation of being a ‘proper fan’.

The gates used to open at 3/4 time at Maine Road, with thousands pouring out.

As a nipper living across the road, me and my friends were always allowed to go in as did plenty.
People have blue fog sometimes.

I can well remember the Platt Lane leaving early and the top of the Kippax singing to them.... We can see you sneaking out...it's nice of you to come etc.

As for the Kippax itself, being a standing area gaps weren't always as easy to see but, if someone watches extended highlights of a game back in the day the front corners of the stand will tell them everything in the last 10 minutes of a match.
