We were in that usual paddock in the corner of the ground, and to get back to the coaches you had to walk past the stand behind the goal. And for some reason the plod decided not to hold us back at the final whistle but to let us out at the same time as the local inbreds. Thar was the nearest I ever got to a battering at an away game, and I was what the hard men today would call a ''scarf''. Luckily a mate of this neanderthal who grabbed me saw that I wasn't one of the City boys and got his mate away from me.
