Leeds away Fa Cup 1977/78

The cool cats could be heard singing from the Leeds end, mental. "the cool cats, the cool cats", worst violence away I ever saw.

My dad took me to this game as a young kid, sat in the stand opposite the main stand and still remember being amazed at how many city fans were there

also remember him having his arm round my shoulders for protection as we made our way back to our bus, must have been kicking off all over the show but can't remember details

This might even have been my first proper away after wembley 76.

We had a Great team in the late 70s

Great afternoon. Thrashed the white scum. Blue support was brilliant.

Outside the ground after the match it were Fred Carno's..

The mounted cops mowed over about 12 city fans that i saw - including kids. Unforgettable - and unforgivable. Shame on the W Yorks Police.

I sincerely wished them all dead that afternoon coz of the way they treated us.

I hope the same now - but now and carry a wry smile as I think my fairy Godmother has finally granted the three wishes I made as I staggered battered towards Leeds city centre. LUFC are sh*t, City are riding the wave - and most if not all of the scum officers (and their Donkeys) on duty that day are now dead.

Who said wishes never come true.......

I do believe in fairy godmothers.............just give it try - and a lot of time.

Hey hey!!.

City playing Leeds in the 70's was always a battle, no matter if we was playing at Maine Rd or Elland Rd, but I think we won 2-1 not sure [ having a seniors moment ], but yes remember the pitch invasion, took a while for it to be cleared, great day out but was a bit dicey afterwards, but then when playing Leeds in those days going up to their ground and winning was always sweet, great memories................

Yes. I was there. It was great.

A bit like the match at Stretford a few years before when Denis did his backheel.

The year before wasn't so cool either
Or the year after, when Kiddo got that late equalizer in a 1-1. We were in that usual paddock in the corner of the ground, and to get back to the coaches you had to walk past the stand behind the goal. And for some reason the plod decided not to hold us back at the final whistle but to let us out at the same time as the local inbreds. Thar was the nearest I ever got to a battering at an away game, and I was what the hard men today would call a ''scarf''. Luckily a mate of this neanderthal who grabbed me saw that I wasn't one of the City boys and got his mate away from me. Not before I got a crack on the cheek though; never ran as fast back to a coach in all my life!

Mad day all round, remember going to Huddersfield for a few beers before hand and ending up being escorted out by the police a sanother couple of hundred blues had the same idea. Parked up about half a mile from the ground, mad walking to the game but nothing like it was after trying to get back. One of only a handful of time I have seen the police lose control due to outbreaks of fighting all over the place. Top day out as was Newcastle in the FAC when Blues decided to take over the Strawberry on match day although that didn't last long.

My first away game was Coventry, last match of the 76-77 season, this game was my second away, aged 12.
Think I was on a Finglands Coach and got there ages before kick-off.
Remember walking all the way round the ground with a silk City scarf tied to my wrist, bit naive in those days !
Pretty sure I was shitting bricks when Leeds were on the pitch and looked like they were heading over to us, didn't help that I was right at the front !
