Who should we sign at left back?

Is Guerreiro off the table now?

I don't watch German football but the people I know who do say that he's great, and I vaguely recall us being linked with him previously.

Ake has looked good there but he's a centre back filling in a role for the team, that shouldn't be a long term solution.

Cancelo looks great going forward from there but time and time again fails to defend crosses coming in from the left wing. I could be wrong but I don't feel like he has the same difficulty when playing down the right. Against the best teams Cancelo and Zinny have been found out defensively IMO. Ake hasn't played enough really to say for sure how comfortable he truly is there either, if we are being sensible.

I guess the point is. Is 'good enough' the standards we keep now? That doesn't seem to be acceptable anywhere else on the pitch.

It all depends on if there is a worthwhile upgrade on what we already have available(someone who can bring what Cancelo can bring from the right). If not, then there's not much point bringing anyone in. If there is, then we will finally get to see what two natural side backs on either wing looks like, for Pep's City.

I'll be honest, I don't know half the names on that list, so I don't know what the answer to the above is. But asking the right questions is half of the puzzle.

I'm definitely not of the opinion that a top quality natural LB wouldn't improve us though.

It will be very unlikely a world class Full back wants to join this team, it's not about money but almost all of them wants guarantee minute which is impossible for the squad ambition in all of competition so rotation is a must.

It will be insulting for most of them if they relegated to be just another player to be rotated and not always the main starting player.

No idea who it should be, but left or right we need them to have pace, reading of the game, strength and the ability to ping a ball 50 yards crossfield. Oh, and the technique of your average premier league midfielder as a minimum.

May sound simple, but I bet once you look through the lists of full backs there are not that many available with those qualities. I like Gaya and Grimaldo but question their ability to hold a striker off at set pieces, or if the opposition target them by placing the big striker on them for goal kicks etc. That was a favourite ploy of many against us with Clichy, maybe we're more tactically astute now however.

The lad at palace looks useful against us but I've not seen him much beyond that. Thankfully we have a world class scouting system so I am sure we are on it.

Left back, striker and defensive midfielder are on the shopping list this summer. Personally I think Pep would view a full back as the least important. That said the prize money should be good for us this year so maybe as good a time as ever.

I hope people don’t start believing Sergio Gomez is a target because Pep’s brother was photographed next to Txiki. Seriously…

Theo Hernandez would be perfect for us , lightning quick and brilliant going forward but I’m sure he signed a new contract not too long ago ?

Tyrick Mitchell has looked very good defensively but as mentioned above does he have the technical ability to play for us , I’m not sure.

Winjdal and Sergio Gomez I’ve never seen play so can’t comment .

For certain we need to sign a natural left back in the summer we can’t go another season filling in gaps with zin and ake
