Leicester City v City post match.

Little bit tipsy now but fuck me, wasn't it wonderful under Bobby Manc, knowing that if we scored first at home, we would know more or less for sure that 3p was in the box and we probably wouldn't even concede. At least it would take something really special from the opponents. Would love to see a couple of scrappy 1-0 wins, but they just don't happen anymore, do they?

Our defensive square of Kompany, Lescott, Barry and De Jong, how much I miss it :(

Wow, mucho apologies circa 63 me, hey do you remember the city v bury game in 65 I think when Harry Dowd hurt his hand and went on to score the equaliser, after a certain Colin Bell had scored for bury happy days for me, women at back of Kippax used to mind my bike for 3 pence I have happy memories of that time, and the programme shop that used to sell away programs you could use front page of those instead of a token, do yo recall that?

It was fantastic mate. defenders that could defend, midfielders that could tackle, keepers that could stop shots and strikers that could hit the target. Simple, but fantastic.

I agree that nobody that makes the effort to go should be called a twat for leaving early, especially by people who haven't gone to the game. Most normal people would say something like 'I'm surprised they left so early but it's their choice', and not just insulted them. I turned the game off for about ten minutes after the third but a naive belief that we could pull it back made me switch it back on
Ah yes the old miraculous recovery. But why not? Spuds in the cup when we came back from 0-3 to 4-3 with our top scorer injured and Barton with a red card. And there are others too: I remember a cup tie against Wolves (71-72) when we were 3-1 down with eleven minutes remaining and 4-3 up five minutes later; Wolves weren't a bad team in those days and reached the UEFA Cup final that season. And I think we scored 3 in five minutes against Standard Liege in the late 70s to turn a nervy 1-0 advantage into a 4-0 tie-winning first leg.
We've all seen these rare but beautiful recoveries, but we've also seen games like yesterday.

While I agree that playing with a high midfield line leaves us vulnerable to the counter, it is the responsibility of the advanced midfield to make certain that we retain the ball.
Too many times, players in the midfield have made errors, be it flicks and tricks that haven't worked, sloppy passing or trying to beat several opposition players solo.
This is where Pep's plan fails.
The chance of recovering from a 'ball over the top' is unlikely in this situation. So if we are only playing with 3 defenders we need two players between the defence and the high line midfield, for insurance.
The advanced midfield 4 should then ,hopefully, be able to provide a lone striker with the level of service he requires to get a goal or two.
I like Iheanacho, but he needs to play as part of a front two, he is unable to play as a lone striker.
Another problem in a fluid line up ,Pep style, is, who's responsibility is it to attack the ball when we have lost it?
Is it the man who has just lost it? The man nearest the ball ? or the man who is marking that particular opposition player? Hence statues!
As I implied earlier , yes, we do need someone to marshal the defence /midfield.
This is where Hart was better than Bravo is
in the absence of Kompany.
Fernandinho is immense for us, always battling, rarely beaten, a leader by example - but no organiser.
Who will ever really replace Vinny? Whoever it is and wherever he plays, we need that man!
