Not much difference between the two. Both are (or were) exciting wingers, both were fan favourites but both were looking like they were on the decline through one reason or another. SWP was more of a statement signing second time around. We don't need any more statement signings at the minute (Haaland is more than enough and possibly Gvardiol). We may need to find a Mahrez replacement but Sane isn't that sigining for me.I did see your post but I think they are different players, different time/needs and the club is in a different place. We could easily sign anyone but I think signing Sané would be the best fit.
If we have been taken by surprise we need someone that can slot in. He can play either side which helps with both the rotation of Grealish/Foden. He’s got a lot of experience and clearly a good player.
I’d be amazed if someone would prefer Olmo or Raphinha to Sané. He’s a better player than both of them, you don’t play week in week out for Bayern if not. I also think if he doesn’t come back and set the world on fire he does a solid job like Mahrez has this year.
I really don’t see a better transfer out there. We have Foden and Grealish already. Potentially Alvarez out wide and plenty of youth players coming through with bags of potential (McAtee, Bobb, Palmer, Borges etc.)
SWP coming back was at that time we were growing, well trying to. We needed any connection to get players in. We could slap down incredible fees for the worlds best players now and they’d most likely say yes.
