I think we need Lescott, or a similar defender. A few times on saturday Dunne had trouble dealing with Roberts, especially the time when he ran pretty much straight across him.

The best premiership defensive partnerships normally consist of one taller, stronger, fearless defender who will stick his head or foot in anywhere (lescott) and one perhaps smaller, more skillfull, quicker defender to play sweeper, organise the defence and link up with the midfield (toure).

Last year we were awful passing the ball out of defence, neither Ned or Dunne could control a ball out the air and then play it to Ireland consistently. I don't think Kompany isn't consistent or strong enough in the air to play Centre back, but is he a better DM than De Jong?

Also, although i think Zabaleta is a more complete right back than Richards, but i think we should stick with Richards. We have enough attacking power without a right back joining in with the attack. A few times on saturday Richards came in from right back and won some great headers, which i don't think zabaleta would have done.

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has told Everton to sell Joleon Lescott to Manchester City.

Redknapp told the Daily Mail: “David Moyes should take the money for Joleon Lescott.

“He doesn’t want to be at Everton and Moyes will not want that negativity breeding in his dressing room.

He added: “It’s another example of player power.”

Haha, bet Everton will love twitcher sticking his ore in.

I don't like Redknapp, but it does make sense to get rid of a player who doesn't want to be there. It creates too many off the pitch issues, and as soon as there's a bad performance (Saturday eg) questions will be asked about the players commitment.

I can see this one getting done before the Wolves game, I just hope Lescott is good enough when he gets here. He'll have alot of pressure on him and hopefully he'll be a success.

We should make a cheeky bid for Charlie and really get up his nose. He had a good game against the red dippers.

Yeah, he did. I'm still sorry he left. Don't get me wrong I love Zabaleta but would've been great to have had them both in the squad.

Our team is finished.

GK: Given and Taylor.
RB: Zabaleta, Richards and Onouha.
CB: Toure, Dunne, Kompany, Onouha, Richards, Ben Haim and possibly Barry if required.
LB: Bridge and Garrido.
DM: Kompany, Barry, de Jong and Zabaleta.
RM: SWP, Ireland, Etuhu, Weiss, Bellamy and Richards could play there.
LM: Petrov, Robinho and Barry.
CM: Ireland, Barry and Johnson.
AM: Robinho, Ireland, Johnson and SWP.
ST: Adebayor, Tevez, Bellamy, Robinho and Santa Cruz.

Based on this, the only way I could see Lescott needed if we lose a left back but Barry could play there if we're short. £15 million is too much for a decent player and we're willing to pay £20+ million, if I was Moyes I would snap there hands off.

I totally agree with you mate, looking at that squad we have plenty of cover in every position considering we won't be playing in europe and i'm sure some of the young lads like mcgivern and mee are more than capable of filling in for a game or two if we are really stuck. to me although lescott is good and possibly better than what we have i dont think hes worth 20 million to replace dunne or kompany and signing him would also replace the playing time available to ned and richards who should be being groomed to take over as the cb pairing in the long term in my opinion

I'm not sure we should read too much into the fact that Richards played over Zabaleta on Saturday, I think it might well have been to combat the threat in the air from Blackburn.
