Everton set to make £12m swoop for tottenham duo....

Everton boss David Moyes is making a £12 million double raid for Tottenham bad boy David Bentley and Scottish international team-mate Alan Hutton.

The Goodison club have opened talks with Spurs for the available pair and could get their men if they increase the offer before the window shuts at the end of the month.

Moyes's surprise double move also suggests he is now planning for spending money - with Joleon Lescott's sale to Manchester City giving him the cash to bring in more bodies in a hurry.

Everton are willing to pay around £8 million for Bentley, a player Moyes admried last summer when he left Blackburn Rovers for more than double that sum.

Despite Bentley's off-the-field troubles and his late-night car prang Moyes is interested in giving him the stage to show his talents and possibly get back into England's World Cup plans.

Bentley has had a disastrous year at White Hart Lane and is available for the right price - with Spurs supremo Daniel Levy still hopeful of recouping more than Everton have offered so far.

However as Spurs have ruled out the possibility of Bentley going anywhere on loan it could be that Everton's hard cash is the best money on the table for the troubled star.

Moyes is also keen to land Hutton, whose first-team chances at Tottenham are limited by their glut of right backs and the signing of Sheffield United's Kyle Naughton - with Kyle Walker to come.

Hutton has had an injury-hit spell at White Hart Lane since he joined from Rangers which is why Moyes rates him in the £4 million category, which is also much less than Tottenham paid Rangers for him.

Moyes would happily take the Tottenham two immediately and hopes to drive through a deal quickly, but if theprice goes up much higher it will stretch his current bidget beyond breaking point.

But the feeling at Everton is that transfer-seeking Lescott will have to go to City because he is not worth the £20 million-plus they could receive from City for him - with the only last stumbling block being how they handle the sale.

Moyes has been defiant on the issue, but common sense may prevail as time runs out - and Everton look to turn the cash into three or four new faces for a wafer-thin squad

This is the kind of thing I've been talking about, this move (sell Lescott, get Bentley and Hutton, plus have some cash left over, about £4m, to go for Senderos) makes far more sense to Everton's current and long term plans than digging your heals in and keeping Lescott despite the £20m offer. IF this is possible, and Moyes STILL decides to keep Lescott then he really is screwing Everton in order to save face.

I wouldn't read too much into this, Everton have in the last couple of days received their sky money.

I can't say any move that brings someone like Bentley to my club makes sense! But on the bright side if he signs for Everton, he can't come here! All that being said I hear what your saying and if we have thrown a player in too, I can't see how its not a good deal for them.

I presume Moyes will be ending his interest in Taylor, he wouldn't want to be seen as a hypocrite.

CHRIS Hughton is ready to add to David Moyes’ woes by fighting tooth and nail to hang on to in-demand Newcastle defender Steven Taylor.

Everton boss Moyes is ready to swoop for £8m-rated Taylor, 23, if he is forced to admit defeat in his battle to stop Joleon Lescott’s £22m move to Manchester City.

Newcastle, who sold midfielder Damien Duff to Fulham yesterday for £3.25m, have already turned down a £4m bid from the Goodison Park outfit for Taylor.

Ahead of Sheffield Wednesday’s visit to St James’s Park tonight, Hughton said: “Steven’s very much still Newcastle’s player. He’s desperate to get on and do well for the team.”

Ill tell you what, if Moyes loses his next game, theres going to be a f^#@ uproar from Everton fans. It's one thing to be strong and resilient, its another to be strategic both in the short and long term .

From what we've heard from HappyBlue & Stu, it sounds like the deal is being discussed as a distinct possibility this week. The fact that Moyes allegedly sent Lescott away from training whilst the rest of the squad prepares for their European game suggests to me he is beginning to see him as a disruptive influence and of detriment to squad harmony. Seems to me that Moyes is possibly willing to accept the deal now, but is doing damage limitation by trying to coincide it with a few players coming in, so the fans won't see it as a step backwards. I don't think we'll see any movement on the deal til Everton are a good way down the road towards bringing in their players.

mmm - I think Everton lost the game on Saturday in midfield, they were simply overrun, they had no outlets when Arsenals passing game broke down which was always in their defensive third and as a result it was wave after wave of Arsenal pressure. Bentley is obviously not where we are hoping to go but he is a mid/upper premiership standard player and would have helped Everton massively on Saturday. I completely agree with Matty, Bentley to beef up their paper thin midfield options, Hutton to replace the awful full back that game and Senderos, to replace Lescott. That is a good deal for Everton. Ok Senderos is not of Lescotts standard but that is why he is significantly cheaper, this kind of deal allows gollum to strengthen his ENTIRE TEAM. He seems to be choosing against this and this is to the detriment of his club.
