Perhaps both . £32.5m I believe was Robinho's fee whilst Ferdinands was £29m ish .
Paying at least £30 would also stick a dent in Uniteds history . :p

Not sure why what we pay matters so much...

Well, obviously to Moyes, ahem, Kenwright, it will matter greatly. But realistically. 20 million vs 30 million to Hughes/ADUG, isn't really going to matter all that much. So we pay over the odds...we're gonna have to for most players the way the market is right now...

Before the accusations of arrogance come flying from the Dark Blue corner...I'm just stating a fact...

Anyway, without wanting to sound like a dickhead, it has been common knowledge around footballing circles since January, that Lescott wants to come. It was always a matter of when, not if...

Wolves are owed 15% ( I think ) of anything above his Wolves - Everton transfer fee in a sell on clause .
Lescott is contracted untill 2012 , and knows he would get a big loyalty payment if he was sold without request . Financially , it is in his interest to say nothing and hope the 2 clubs reach a deal .
As for it being common knowledge , I look upon it more as common speculation .

£30M is taking liberties.

Which is why Lescott declaring his hand is important. I think Everton will sell at about 20M

If he becomes a City player , and plays like he has for Everton , you will think £30 million is cheap . It's only the fact that he isn't a City player that City fans dispute the price , and probably vice versa for Everton fans .

Depends on who you know pal...

There will be a threshohold above which the Everton board will have their say...and believe you me, it ain't 30 million.

Only the likes of Chelsea can sniff at 25 million plus for a player. Your lot will be telling Moyes to shut his trap and move on if they see an offer of 20 million plus...

I can't see the fee being above £20m.

I know enough football players personally to fill a diary , and I couldn't tell you squat about what will happen . Kenwright has already stated it's Moyes who runs the show , and I doubt if Moyes said no , he would say yes .
A lot will depend on elsewhere in the market no doubt . It's important also to remember that City may not be the only club interested in Lescott .

Why do you rate those 2 players as better than Lescott ?
Rio is 30 soon , and both of those players face much less attack than Lescott , and neither play more than 1 position , or score regularly .

They're defenders, they're not paid to score.
