only flaw in your argument would be how would everton know we were going to bid, could be a lucky guess from the papers but i think both city and everton are playing this out ...ultimately both clubs need lescott to make the next move

I think the Media suggesting City were going to bid was leaked to them by Everton after City had Actually bid. Everton won't leak it as "Everton Football Club", they'll get someone to have a quiet word with a journalist and get it out in the open. Everton are then free to "Officially reject the bid" as the news is already out there. It's not like City were going to deny it!

I think this is absolutely true.

If you remember with the initial bid the rumours were circulating that we were preparing to put in a bid on the Friday morning. Everton released the statement on their website saying that we put the bid forward the day before.

"City made contact with the Club on Thursday, tabling a bid of £15 million for the England international defender."

Everton defender Joleon Lescott is this afternoon expected to hand in a transfer request in a bid to prompt a £20m move to Manchester City.
City have had two bids - the latest for £19m - turned down by the Merseyside club with Everton telling them that the young England international is not for sale.

But Sportsmail understands that Lescott was this morning in the process of formally writing to Everton chairman Bill Kenwright to make it clear that he wants to leave, even if it means waiving his rights to a pay-off.

Having had their fingers burned by their failure to land John Terry from Chelsea, City will not increase their offer to Everton until there is a formal and clear indication from Lescott that he is ready to walk away.

City remain optimistic that they will manage to sign Lescott and they are happy to go above the £20m mark to do so.
But the Premier League's richest club have identified Newcastle's Sebastien Bassong and Portsmouth's Sylvin Distin as fall-back options if they can not do the deal before the start of the season.

If Lescott does not come than City manager Mark Hughes has been given the go-ahead to sign Bassong and former Eastlands captain Distin.

This, in turn, would pave the way for last season's captain Richard Dunne to leave the club.

City have not identified a captain for the new season but summer signing from Aston Villa Gareth Barry is currently favourite.

I think City are playing hard ball with the Elm and Delph 'Interest', as every man and his dog know Everton want them 2.

Think Delph is a real target but agree with the Elm one. Can see us being linked with him just to piss Everton off. Fair play I say, and regardless of the Lescott outcome I would recall Jo at the last possible min to prove a point.

You need a clause to call a player back, the loan deal is a season loan. So you cant recall him!

I don't blame City one bit, its business, and I wouldn't be surprised to see these 'interests' disappear once Lescott signs.

You can see why Everton are forcing Lescott into requesting a transfer, as its £2million more into Moyes' transfer Kitty!

Edited for accuracy ;-P

Ouch. Like I said before if he puts in a transfer request and starts demanding a move, Moyes and Kenright are going to look like idiots after saying he would not be sold at any price even over £30 million etc.

I mean its going to be humiliating if he ends up going for £20 million ish after what they have been saying.

Fuck the greedy bastards, if he hands in transfer request we should make a 15 million take it or leave it final offer. Surely he is worth less if he is forcing the club to move.

Tell Everton we won't go in for them. Get Lescott then go straight after the 2 young lads and outbid Everton if necessary.

Job done..

In other words Fuck em. They'd do the same back.
