Lescott today...

I think our CBs have been at fault for slowing our game down. They hold the ball for too long and just pass it between themselves. This is why de jong needs to play, he will come close to get the ball and get it moving quickly. Toure failed to do this tonight
This is ridiculous. De Jong was part of the slowdown problem last season. The CD's (Lescott in particular) just doesn't like taking risks so he'd rather go to Clichy or Lescott, unless Yaya comes to get it. Which Yaya does, WAY more often than Nigel ever did last season.

Lets stop reinventing history.

Then why the hell have they both taken to randomly hoofing the ball upfield to the opposition??

This is our biggest downfall. We play possession football and both the CB's and the keeper just wack it upfield and gives away the ball. Then suddenly there coming back at us.

There is no excuse for it whatsoever.

He is a disaster, 0 sense of timing and position, besides VC we suck in defense.Time to get rid of him and buy a world class player alongside Vincent keeping Kolo and Savic as substitutes....

Anyone that watches City regularly knows that Lescott has limitations against the top teams.

He is a superb header of the ball and good at timing tackles but he is uncomfortable and unnatural with the ball at his feet. He can make a short pass, particularly sideways or backwards, but gives the ball away too often with anything else.

AVB revealed in his sky post match interview that he had targeted our central defenders who could be "unsteady" and they could "nick the ball".

I like Lescott as a character and personality and he has enough talent for most PL games but the higher the level we play the more we will need world class players for the big games.

Not sure what you mean about him giving the ball away.
He passes the ball inaccurately when under pressure or trying anything other than a "short pass", frequently such passes go to the opposition.

Others have mentioned the fact that, last night more than I've seen before, VK aimlessly hit the ball long, effectively losing the team possession. Just don't think Joleon should be singled out.

Fair point about VK's long balls last night. The reason why I was making comments about Lescott ball skills dont just apply to last nights game though. Lescott consistently is not comfortable with his control on the ball IMO.
I am not sure if VK's drop in form is down to the pressure of captaincy, lack of De Jong cover or something else. However IMO VK is certainly a more confident and accompolished ball player than Lescott.

A few of our players hit some awful long balls in that game actually. Barry and Kompany were the main culprits. So frustrating when they just smash it down field and it goes straight to Cech, what's the point really.

This!

Why the hell do they hoof it and lose possession?

Its not just last night but its been happening all season. Joe Hart too, why does he not roll it out? 50% of the time he hoofs it.

Watch him closely when a player is coming towards him he hoofs it forwards, he hardly ever plays a simple pass forwards. He hoofs it or a sidewards pass
he is dodgy when he has the ball he treats it like a time bomb

I smell something.......

On the Lescott front, if a shot is headed goalwards and your arms are above your shoulders and it hits them then it's a penalty every time. Saying that, it can be a natural reaction, but that will never be an excuse in 99% of ref's eyes. 2 Points lost (but difficult to blame him fully)

The Liverpool one was pure bad luck, how many times might that have hit him and go out and be considered a good block. It pinged awkwardly and he had almost no chance of moving out of the way. He probably would have moved into it anyway as that's his job. 2 points - no-one's fault.

I'm just glad we're arguing about who was to blame for dropping 7 points by Xmas.

I still find it hard to get used to not having to scan our fixtures for the 2nd half of the season to try and figure out how we can get to 40 points by the end of the season.

I personally think lescott has cost us valuable points both against Liverpool and Chelsea, I'm sorry, but it's elementary defending, not to wave your hands up in the air anywhere on the pitch particulalrly in the box. He simply just isn't good enough and I think this was shown by Mancini taking him off abliet for an attacking player but he must be royally pissed off because of him at anfield and stamford bridge. I do admire Lescott the person but he just isn't good enough for this level, we need a world class defender due to us now having other world class players (your only as strong as your weakest link). *Not annoyed we lost, just the way we lost and I think that was primarily due to him.

Watch him closely? Seems like a witch hunt here at times. Let's watch EVERY player closely and pick flaws in their game. Seems fairer to me. 11 perfect players and we'd never drop a point... EVER.

-- Tue Dec 13, 2011 3:00 pm --

Do you not think, at 1-0 up, David Silva should have shot when given the clear chance to? Yes David Silva - our world class maestro. This, in my opinion, cost us the points last night.
