Leslie Mark Hughes

the problem is not mh its the fact we have so much money and maybe be able to attract anyone. I personally have no problem with the guy he seems a nice man but he is not the best manager in the world by a long chalk and thats what most people on here want. if your willing to wait and see if he turns out the best well good on you but I have waited long enough and want us to win something now .so my point is get the best manager around now and stop pissing about.

well said, more succinctly put than my post on previous page but general consensus the same.

Mancity1 I think you're quite right about the signings, most of them have been around for a while and have big reputations but Hughes brought them here and most fairly cheap. Zab, Kompany, Given and SWP were great value whilst we probably paid a bit too much for Bellamy, Bridge and De Jong but they are good players who've improved us. You'd be a complete fool to question his signings as all in all they've been excellent. All the more confusing it is then when you look how shit we've been.

I don't disagree with you about the signings in terms of their ability to improve the side notwithstanding most of them have not been at the forefront in teams that have had major sustained success at the highest level.

Its our inability to grind out results especially away from home that has baffled me more because even when we had sides that most of us would agree do not have the quality that we have now we did what we did best more often than what we have done this season.

Part of that gets straight back to management and how they match wits tactically with the opposition on the day.

I wouldn't say we have been completely shit or completely outplayed for many of our loses this season I would say we have been out thought on the pitch in many of those games and Hughes has to take responsibility for some of that.

Our inablity to grind out a draw or come from behind is a major worry for me because its going to continue to occur with our present structure and quite likely at home against what we may claim to be inferior opposiition in the run in to May.

And that is the right attitude to have and like I said last night to the derision of a mad woman, it won't sit well with some of our fans because our saving grace has always been 'support the club no matter what'. That doesn't have to go out of the window though, you can want success without getting all gooey about our crazy past.

Would you appoint Wenger then? Has he won a trophy in the last 4 years?

Without a doubt, Wenger is a genius and if one person would rather have Hughes than Wenger then they should seek help. What's he won in the last 4 years? Is that how long a managers lifespan is? What about wining the double with Arsenal or getting them to the champions league final? Or do we ignore all that coz it was more than 4 years ago?

So its fine to be given time so long as you have won something before. Well Wenger's earlier success was due to inheriting the best back 5 in British football (Seaman, Dixon, Adams, Bould & Winterburn).

Of course he is a very good manager, but I would be amazed if in 2 years we had won nothing that he wasn't being lambasted by City fans.

Fair enough, but I wouldn't be so sure we would still win a trophy within 2 years.

Jesus H, this is one of the calmest Hughes debating threads I've seen. Well done everyone.

It's definitely fair to say that for those of us who want Hughes to have another crack of the whip next season aren't in any doubt that MH may not get it right and we aren't overawed by what he's done so far. If he doesn't get it right then rightly he should be shown the door. What we think he has done is come in to the club at a time when boardroom politics were at their worst for a while and the team spirit looked like it was virtually non-existent. After a time of assessing teh squad he's recognised where and what needs doing and hasn't taken any shit off players who don't see things his way. Some of those problems have been addressed and some haven't - which is why we call for time.

I do see the other side of the coin. I'm not blinkered and I don't go all soft in the head at the mere mention of what I deem to be MH's good points. Yet it can feel as though some of those that don't want to give him that second season of development, which any manager would need, made their minds up before they saw any progress (which you can see on the pitch I don't see how you can't) and aren't prepared to see it now.

I'm happy to see him here for another season and I'd be equally happy to see him go if he can't get it right when he's had a proper go at it. After all, if he's sorting out the squad from top to bottom on and off the pitch then I can't see any harm in that.

As stated before many good opinions on this topic IMO we have waited so long for a trophy whilst winning one is the prize my problem is that we havent any consitency of performance, which obviously has to be in place before we can realisticly think about trophys.

Whilst some the football we play on the break is awesome, if a team put us under any pressure we buckle! So no game plan? Alborg, poor team really managed to make us look pedestrian, West Brom & Stoke just battered us, Ive said it before we have no success from Corners or free kicks so many things are not right with how we set up who is to blame? management team or players.

If we cant win.... dont lose! not pretty but until we change the away game preperation we IMO cannot even begin think about challangeing the top 6 in the prem and therefore be taken seriously as poss trophy winners!!

rant over
