lets be honest

we lost to possibly the best team of all time, definately the best i have ever seen, since they have a great defence and world class attacking play, where the great barca team of a few years ago had world class attacking play with an average defence. they humilated most teams last year and would this year as well. so much doom and gloom on here would think we were bottom of league 2 or something.

That's a good point, I think their last 4 away games in the champs league have included wins at arsenal (1-3) , barca (0-3) and marseille. Still it was poor tonight especially the team tactics. Time to reflect and drastically improve if we are to make top 4 this season.

Having witnessed one of the best performances I've seen from City 2 weeks ago against united, I thought I witnessed one of our worst at the top level tonight.

Bayern were good, we knew that, but they made us look like a pub team for 60 minutes, shambolic is the most optimistic I could call us.

Manager, coaches, and players should be in at 8am tomorrow morning to analyse what went so badly wrong, it would probably take all day, instead unlike the majority who paid a lot of money to witness it, and will be in work at 8am, they'll get the day off.

It should only take the time it takes to say "POOR STRATEGY" to figure it out. I can't believe we went with 2 strikers playing so high for 45 minutes when we know how Guardiola likes to set his teams up.
I can't believe Pellegrini is as bad as this. I just think he has come here with and has his arm twisted into a 'blind commitment' to play adventurous football from day one, whoever the opposition. As Chelsea have shown us, this philosophy is just plain naive.

They aren't as good as Barça from 2009. That Barça team had a good performing back four with Puyol bang on. They were making 900 passes a game and having 30 shots per game even against very good sides.

Hopefully this is the wake up call they need, rather than poor excuses. Yes Bayern are good, very good, but lets use it to get their heads clear.

Drop Joe, we cannot keep having these mistakes- it sends the message to the team, perform or your on the bench.

We need to press teams a lot tighter, we did it in the 4-1 win (okay they were sh**e) but we compound it just like Bayern did to us last night. Yaya for all his ability does not move well (he can turn it on when he wants) but last night he was like a man on crutches at times! He needs a wake up call again put him on the bench.

The positional play of our team is poor, last night. example being Samir leaving Gael exposed 2 some times 3 on one, while he made his way back from the centre (slowly) don't get me wrong Samir put in a shift but mostly wasted chasing in the centre (possible covering work Yaya should be doing)

We need to step up on Saturday and press them or we will get a beating from an in form Everton, if that happens then its time for the tin hats to come out.

COME ON CITY !

We were as bad as a non league side playing Arsenal away in the third round of the cup in the first 75 minutes.

Having said that Bayern were excellent.

Getting through to the knockout stages won't mean jack anyway even if we do because we are so far off that level that I couldn't see us getting past the last 16.

We need to fully focus on the prem now.

All this bollocks about them being the best team in the world ever.

So does that mean we shouldn't give a shit then. That we can line up so fuckin tactically inept that it seems like 1979 because we will get beat whatever we do.

No of course it doesn't. You give yourself the best possible chance not bend over for a dicking.

Juventus (0-2), not Marseille. Insane record really, Bayern have beaten the best Spanish, Italian and 2 of the best English teams in consecutive away games and none of the games was even close.

they are better than that barca team. they are so much more disciplined in defence and have a more varied attack because they are not depending on 1 player for the most part. this bayern team toyed with juve and barca last season. its hard to see who can deal with them this season in the cpl.

Plenty to admire but we made it easy for them with our lineup.

Not as good as Pep's Barca

I must agree with this - thought Bayern were immense.

Best team I've ever seen us play. Looked like they were playing a different sport. We are light years behind them.

We got beaten by a superior team, with superior players - there were times Ribery/Robben had 4 players around them and they could still thread it through the smallest of gaps with the flick of a boot. This is a team that's European champions and beat Barcalona 7-0 over two legs (4-0 at the Nou Camp).. and they've added more quality since then.

Admittedly we set up poorly, it was evident after 15-20mins with the way they were spraying cross field balls for the fun that we weren't set up right. No other team in Europe would be able to do that to us though, Barca probably but Munich are another step up from them.

Don't get me wrong, i'm embarrassed by the performance but had Joe been able to guard his near post we'd be looking at a 1-1 this morning.

I don't understand why lots are slagging off City. We should of played with a different set-up (more in midfield) but the team we played were very very good and made us look bad.

We've not turned in to a bad team overnight, we were made to look bad by a much better team.

Agree completely, played right into their hands.... Fair enough, there's no denying, they're a quality side, but to play 442 and allow them an extra man in midfield for 70 minutes, without evening it up,( when everyone else could see we were getting over-run) was "tactically naive",at best, by Pellegrini

Surely the first thing you do when the opposition have better quality players than you, is to get in their faces and make it difficult for them., (just like Cardiff recently did to us).

Should've done a Mancini & started the game with 2 DM's in front of the back four, a lone striker up top, and invited them to break us down... not try to go toe to toe with 'em.

We still might've lost, it's true,, but I'm certain the game would've been a lot closer with half an hour left. (meaning that Negredo's goal could've possibly sneaked us an "undeserved" point)

I, too, had a similar thought 60 minutes in, especially about the joke cost of the ticket last night.

I do have to say, however, that the Bayern team were truly outstanding. They would have made an team look like a pub team.

I cant remember seeing a better team.

I disagree, they were good but we made them look better through tactical ineptitude, Dortmund were a better team IMO.

For me the main problem in Europe lies with Yaya Toure and the position he is playing. There is no getting away from the fact that the man is a valuable asset in the league but his style is not as expansive as it needs to be for a central midfielder in European competition. This is why Barca sold him as Busquets is indefinitely more mobile and mobility is key against Europes elite. Name me another 6ft 3in/4in midfielder currently playing for a Champions League team...

He simply lacks the mobility and ability to play as a central midfielder in Europe. He is too slow to react and does not have the energy levels needed to get back in to position once an attack breaks down. I have lost count of the amount of times Fernandinho has been left trying to stop 2/3 midfielders pouring forward after they have breezed past Yaya Toure with a quick passing move.

He is much more of a threat in the final attacking third than anywhere else on the pitch. In Europe he needs to be pushed further forward - ideally behind a sole striker. His presence, ability to trap the ball and height would give us a solid outlet if the pressure becomes too much. A long ball from defence to Toure is better than one to Aguero. One ball trapped, a turn and a powerful run is the sort of penetration we lack.

From recent weeks I think a midfield two of Nasri and Fernandinho could work, with say Silva, Toure and Navas infront. Nasri has added bite to his game and is technically superior to Toure. His ability to play penetrating balls from deep would also provide us with a different option when starting attacks.

Yes me as well , the best team and performance against us I have seen in 50 years of being a Blue. No one could have lived with Bayern last night and on my way home was speaking to a Bayern fan who said it was their best performance of the season "everything worked tonight " he said.

Still gutted and slightly shell shocked but part of my life as a Blue.

Teams like Bayern and Real are a class apart from the usual 'top quality' on show in the PL. People go on about the PL being the best league in the world. They may be right about being 'the best league' but last night showed that we don't have the best teams.

I have said it before on here that you have to do the same as they do. Too many times last night we were content to let them keep passing the ball as long as they didn't make any headway, whereas they were at our throats in every square inch of the pitch - that is the difference in Europe!

It was weird emotionally , on the one sense disbelief and gutted that we were being so outclassed but also at times in awe of Bayern and their play, which was world class.

City need to learn from the game, move on and start winning again - the title can and should be be ours again this season!

Arsenal at home when we were 4-0 down after 20 minutes and applauded them off the pitch at half time was better! Mind you we made them look good last night with our 442 formation which should have been changed earlier and we still havn't worked out how to use Yaya in Europe without putting everything else in danger!
