lets respect wigan

Wigan's chances going to be hit by their Premiership relegation battle which looks like it will go to the last day when they play Villa at home

WED 17 APR Manchester City Away
SAT 20 APR West Ham Utd Away
SAT 27 APR Spurs Home
SAT 04 MAY WBA Away
TUE 07 MAY Swansea Home
SAT 11 MAY Man City FA Cup Final
SUN 12 MAY Arsenal Postponed Away
SUN 19 MAY Villa Home

They could be on a high by then after fighting their way out of it - like last season - but more likely they will be dragged deeper and deeper into it by the week. We must beat them in the League - that could be significant for the Cup Final

Wigan are a Premier League side so obviously, given the right set of circumstances, they can win the FA Cup Final against us. However those circumstances would have to be them playing at the top of their game, and enough City players underperforming to allow the Wigan performances to be enough to beat us. If Wigan put in the best performance they can, and City play well, then I still believe City will win, although it will be a closer affair than we'd like. Wigan need us to perform poorly coupled with them putting in a decent stint in order to beta us.

There's no arrogance in stating that we have a superior side to Wigan and, therefore, we are clear favourites for the Final and we should win. That's just a fact, born out by our respective league positions over the last few seasons, and our results against Wigan over that time. In fact, if you look at our recent games with Wigan, we've won the last 6 Premiership encounters, and they haven't scored against us in any of them. In fact you've got to go as far back as October 2009 for the last time we conceded against Wigan, and the fact our goal that day was scored by Martin Petrov should indicate to you how much we've changed/improved since then.

Are we certainties to win? Of course not. Should we win with relative comfort? Of course we should. Put it this way, do you think Manchester United would be concerned with an FA Cup Final against Wigan?

Unfortunatley for Wigan they don`t have the quality within their squad to rotate players. Their fixture pile up and their current league position mean that they will have to play their best XI every week. Whereas City have strength in depth to rest players to ensure they`re fresh for the final. In the last 20 mins yesterday we looked knackered, we must ensure this doesn`t happen against Wigan.

Even with them reaching the final I think their priorities lay slightly more to survive in the PL. That schedule they have is pretty tough, but we still should be cautious and don't take anything for granted.

I see Wigan have a home match on the Tuesday before the FA Cup Final, at present we don't have a game that midweek. Is this when the West Brom game will be rearranged for? Or will we have a full week off to prepare whereas Wigan will only have 3 days rest?

All it takes is a Maloney free kick and our strikers missing their chances. 1-0 Wigan. Goodbye any trophy this season.

However, I think not...

4-0 City

We should absolutely dick them, but we do need to actually turn up.

As I recall we almost fucked up a game to inferior opposition which would have meant missing out on a trophy at the end of last year.
