Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

Why does the middle east never sort the middle east out.....why is it always left to (lets face it) us in a small degree and the Yanks in a large one. Who eventually piss off the locals. Why don't the the two nations that have freed themselves from the bondage of dictatorship pile in and help the people of the other nations get rid of their despots?

Its amazing the lack of coverage in Bahrain. The west is keeping its arse quiet on that one, never is international hypocrisy so evident as when different policy is being used on different, neighboring nations who fundamentally are fighting the same issue. i.e. getting rid of someone who is in charge because he always has been. I wonder if its just a matter of time until we pile into Zimbabwe....surely its coming, exactly the same thing is going on there surely.....aaaahhhhhhh but hold on there is one vital ingredient missing in Zimbabawe................

A no fly zone isn't technically at war but yeah it's a big step in that direction. I think the UN is completely useless in everything that they do especially in matters such as this, seeing as how Libyan rebels have been calling out for this for weeks now. I think that really the only thing to do in this situation is pick a side and stick with it. Either stay out completely or step in on the side of the rebels and try to get an end to this thing quickly. No matter what Quaddafi says he simply couldn't hold out very long from the rebels backed completely by the world powers, but it's not really something I think anyone wants to get that deeply involved with.

Then again, calling for tougher sanctions or whatever isn't going to stop anything. The whole "Hey Mr. so and so, leader of nation this and that, please stop your aggressive military policies towards your people/other nations or we will be forced to write you a very angry letter" thing has been tried and tested in the past and isn't going to solve anything.

Glad I'm not the one making the call on this.

There was a no fly zone in Bosnia, I don't know much about that though. I don't know if the massacres that took place happened before or after the no fly zone was implemented or how effective it was overall.

Take it from someone who knows (from Bosnian war, I was there) - all these UN and related resolutions come about JUST TOO LATE to have anything other than adverse effect :-)

Historically UN is probably the most ineffective organization when it comes to handling military conflicts ever. I mean EVER. I remember when us locals were joking with their 'troops' on multiple levels. For one we called them 'smurfs'. Cause they wear blue helmets and in a full-blown war they would take pictures :-) They took pictures when few THOUSANDS of civilians were slaughtered in Srebrenica (RIP) over the course of three days.

In short - God help Libiyans if UN is running the show...US and NATO need to get involved. If they don't, who's gonna take action, for example, if a no-fly zone is breached? It surely won't be UN :-) That's what used to happen in Bosnia at the beggining of the war - no fly zone was just being blatantly breached and UN was 'issuing warnings' while hundreds of civilians died...by the time proper decisions were made close to half a million people died in Bosnia.

But Dzeko made it through, so he'll survive the Prem too I'm sure :-)

Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

It makes no sense, our army is being butchered but some people in this contury think we should be world police. Keep out, we got enough on our hands with Afgan etc.

Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

I'm for it

get the weapons in to the rebels, take out his air strike capability

pay his mercenaries more than he can

this prevents slaughter of the innocents

and i'm not averse to surrender of the guilty

Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

My mates Daughter has just been put on 24hrs standby (she's in RAF).
To leave for Cyprus.

Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

how long before 'no fly zone' turns into outright occupation?

we all know how these things work

topple gaddafi - spread democracy mixed with a pinch of capitalist business

in it for the f*ckin' money...

Re: Looks like as from 10pm we are at war

No American forces this time so it's just us, the French (god help us) and the Arab world.

Weird how the madman in Zimbabwe has been killing his own people and Europeans for years and nothing is done but as soon as an oil rich country starts it everyone piles in.
