How did he play last night? The clips I saw of him he literally didn't move, rooted to the spot, save for the penalty. He wasn't doing any chasing or making himself available for a pass, no interest defensively, but he did seem genuinely passionate about scoring.

Hard to read him right now.
He played as a false 9, which he basically did at walking pace. Once on the ball his touch and skill were as good as ever, coupled with customary bursts of acceleration to nip away from opponents or draw a foul.

Without the ball though it was like Barca were defending with 10 men. Whether that’s attitude or just his actual ability to run now it’s difficult to tell.

Victor Font, the man who said he'd have let Messi leave to come to City in the Summer, has told SSN that he wants Guardiola back if he becomes their president. Hero to zero!

And no doubt Font will gather lots of votes by just saying that

Sid Lowe spoke about whether the resignation would mean much on the Football Weekly pod today and he said:

  • Sure, does make Messi staying more likely

  • However, Messi probably "deep down" knew this was coming anyway "sooner or later"

  • Pique said recently he sent Messi a text over the summer (before he asked to leave) to remind it was coming and Messi still asked to leave, so clearly that wasn't enough
Which means to me that it may not mean as much as some are thinking as Barca still have financial problems that are not resolved.

Maybe if they show him they can be a CL contender next season (Some players improve, they sell Dembele and use the money for Haaland).

A lot can happen. Who knows?
