The way they spend their money is their problem. But 200M is a great starting point for a squad renewal nonetheless. We did it in 2017 when we brought in Bernardo, Danilo, Walker, Mendy and Ederson.
It's not that you're wrong in that 200m is a great starting point to build a new squad. But you covered it in the first sentence. The current board (which Messi is trying to get away from apparently) are not the smartest on the transfer front.

They blew a load of money on Dembélé when they couldn't sign Coutinho to replace Neymar. Despite the fact they didn't actually need to replace Neymar immediately. Then they went ahead and blew a load of money on Coutinho anyway, and they definitely didn't need him at this point. Then the next summer they blew a load of money on Malcom, who they didn't need, and Arthur who was talented and they DID need but they forgot to run a background check on. Then last summer they blew a load of money on De Jong who was not what they needed with Busquets still about and Griezmann who they absolutely did not need given he plays the same role as Messi. Lenglet is probably the only guy they've signed where you could say he's 100% been worth the money.

Even if we spent 300m on Messi, Barcelona would blow the money on 3 players; 2 of which they wouldn't need and 1 who turns out to be a dud. I'm thinking Alisson, De Ligt, and Mason Mount. And maybe if we're lucky they get Sancho before United do.

Completely agree with you on everything. Let me just say that I think De Jong was worth it since I believe Busquets' days are over, he is probably the only Barça midfielder I wish we had with us (Frenkie, not Sergio).

And I think you're wrong about Alisson, they'd go for Donnarumma, who's more of a troublemaker!

Yeah I believe we had De Jong tied up as well before fannying about which is irritating, he would have suited us to a tee.

Yup, he'd be the perfect DM for this team. I wonder if he regrets it now.

If he becomes available you have to do whatever it takes to get him if there is even a small chance. Obviously his best days are behind him but his effect is way beyond that.

Best player of all time playing for Man City, it will magnify the profile of the club. He will still produce absolute magic on the pitch aswell, even if not as commonly as in his earlier years.

As much as Messi fan boys here wants him to come to City, y'all know, Messi will never leave Barca. It's all a ploy to get rid of Bartomeu. Messi vs Bartomeu: game on. Heard a rumor, Bartomeu resigning tomorrow

I thought the Barca Board couldn't leave until all debts paid. This has to be done before the next intake of the board?

So could somebody clear something up for me!

I have been under the impression that messi is free to leave to any club he wants under his current contract and I thought this was common knowledge!

I may be wrong though as quite a lot are talking about how much he is going to cost to get him from barca!

The truth is that it's a bit of a grey area. There is a clause in his contract which allows him to leave the club on a free at the end of every season. However, the clause 'expires' at the end of May every year. With the way COVID stopped football for 3 months, the season has obviously gone long past May, but nobody really knows whether Barca and Messi have discussed this or if Barca would honour it in August. I'd imagine not, but who knows really. If he says I'm out, let me go or I'll down tools, what recourse does the board really have?

He has a release clause. €700m. Free ti leave to whichever club pays it.
