This is the biggest and most difficult aspect of this story.

However...this is Messi we're talking about and we were willing to do it for Mbappe.

The players know they've bottled it season after season in CL and surely know the window for some will not be forever.

KDB is in his prime years and won't want to waste time. However he did not sign that contract he was rumoured to in the spring. He's the player I'd be most worried about. Sterling is the other but I don't think there will be those ready to pay so much and RM will likely not be calling just yet.

Can you convince Kev and the other players or will it be another Pogba/Sanchez effect?

Messi will pay for his own wages.

The club already spoke to commercial partners to see how much extra they'd pay with Messi at the club in 2016, and there'd likely be renegotiations with a lot of them, exactly as Juventus renegotiated their deals with Adidas and Jeep when Ronaldo joined.

Then there's the next shirt sponsor. Shopping about the chance to have your brand on Messi's chest every week, and have him in you advertising is basically writing a blank cheque, IMO we'd be looking at rates near United's £75m, Real's €80m a year.

The other players aren't stupid. They will see these deals being done within months of Messi arriving and they'll know that's why he'll take home £80m a year all in. They will see the 10s of thousands of Messi shirts on kids backs all over the world.

That's before they even step on the training pitch with him, and realise how much better he is than them. Some of the greatest players of the last 20 years - Aguero, Iniesta, Xavi, Henry, Ronaldinho - they all say he's on a different level to every footballer they've ever seen or played with before. They know why he gets paid the amount he does.

Barca's wage problems came with Neymar. He had to get paid because of his commercial pull and how much they competed for his signature, but then Suarez wanted to be near him, then Griezmann, then they killed their wage structure.

It’s a forum no one knows anything especially seeing as this type of stuff can change at any given minute, most are opinions some are informed opinions, there might be a select few who get whispers if something’s happening but other than that no one can say 100% it’s not going or going to happen.
I think so-called ITKs are close to journalists who receive briefings from City. So, better positioned than many but far from copper-bottomed, as I’m sure they would admit.

Pretty sure @Prestwich_Blue stated a while ago that messi has always been on the radar and just had to give us the nod to proceed

I feel like this is as close as we will ever get to having him. I’m sure if he said come get me we would go balls deep like kaka

With virtually nothing happening at the Important board meeting today (underwhelming appointment of Koeman)

I expect we will soon hear something from Messi's camp.

underwhelming doesn’t even describe it. He’s going to be so fucked off at that appointment
