Hahaha

News breaks that suits City and we take it as gospel.

News breaks that suits Barca and we assume it's bullshit, from a bad source or unreliable.

There's going to be good news and bad news, breaking half a dozen times a day, and most of it is guesswork. We might as well just get used to it because this is likely to go on for a while.
Who has said the news is unreliable? It's an official statement from La Liga. It's quite clear it's real. Nobody has remarked otherwise

It’s disgusting! They’re making it so that messi will never be associated with their club or league again. The entitlement of of the hateful 8 is terrible. Thank Lionel messi for what he’s done for your club and let a legend leave on his terms for Christ sake
They want to drown the player in red tape but could anything be more damaging to barcelona than madrid and Bartoemeu in conflict with Messi?

barcelona will end up negotiating a transfer because Messi is barcelona. 20 years of his life and it means nothing? On paper maybe, but in practise messi will win.

The majority are taking the stance that it's "just posturing" and "of course La Liga would support Barcelona". Not even considering that perhaps they're actually right. On the other hand, when news comes out that supports City's claim we don't question it's authenticity.

But it’s none of La Liga’s business.

The statement is... weird, to say the least.

It states that the only way Messi will leave Barcelona is if someone pays his release clause. Well, we know that's not true. You're telling me Barcelona won't consider letting Messi go if someone pays £10m under his release clause? What about £100m? £400m? Surely they'd rather that than him leaving for free next year. And everyone knows that clause isn't actually there to be paid.

The contract is between Messi and Barcelona. They have no say in its legality. La Liga have stood by Barcelona. It is pretty clear that Messi leaving has a negative impact on the league so it's hardly a neutral opinion.

It pretty obvious they were always going to say this. You are talking about an organisation who basically refused to sign the transfer papers of Neymar until FIFA forced them to.

They (La Liga) actually don't say the size of that buyout clause ... so which could be €700m as Barca believe it to be or €0 as Messi and his lawyers see it ...
Well messi's camp, or someone, released an alternative view last night suggesting that the contract in its final year had no release clause. Whatever the contract says:

1) Contract has 10 months left
2) messi wants to leave, and has already submitted a transfer request

That means that Messi will leave barcelona, it is only a matter of how it happens and when. barcelona have to work out the way that is least damaging to their club and fighting the player and disrespecting his wishes is not going to work. it will leave them with nothing

What la liga says doesn't really count for anything. They came in support of Barcelona as expected, Messi leaving barca would hurt them immensely. This will end up in court and I see Messi coming out on top

After all Messi has done for Barcelona over so many years I think their treatment of him is a disgrace. What will happen next I don't know but I am finally certain of one thing now...Messi definitely wants to leave. Up until now I thought he might be just trying to change the Board or get a new contract etc..

That statement is purely about wanting them srew the money out of us,we get investigated and off we go again, that and barca cant rebuild if he goes for free, nothing has changed really

Agree with you re the motivation behind the statement etc but I do think things are changing. If it was clear cut he could leave for free then we would be clear to move this on at pace, but this statement means his position is complex and going to take time to resolve. Maybe a lot of time. I can’t see us paying any kind of fee for him so it looks like the next moves are all with Messi and his team.

I see sports lawyers laughing everywhere ... in Spain, in the UK, in UAE, in Switzerland ... all rubbing their hands (and possibly following this thread as enthusiastically as us City fans) ...

CAS 2.0 incoming ...
