Be careful of Eastern European door staff on the bars near the harbour/marina area. They're very heavy handed. Me and a work colleague got a right pasting there, dusters, knee stamps, steel toe caps in the ribs etc...about 8 of them on to two of us.

What brought that about ?

They'd "escorted" a young marketing lad (works trip) out for being too drunk, fair dos, but then me and a mate noticed 4 of them drag him out of sight and start give him a kicking for no reason? the two of us piled in and ended up with all the door staff from adjacent bars (same firm) having a pop. took a right beating. All the hotel staff said afterwards that they're normally hit first ask questions later and have a rep for it.

So while we should of known better it's worth noting that they can be a bit tetchy.

well good on you for having a go, not sure they'll be so brave with 2000 city fans though.

Cascais is a nice place to stay just 30 mins
by train from Lisboa and if you walk along the
prom towards Estoril there`s a beach bar full
of City stuff (owner ex manc) who used to give
us free drinks

Back to the future!

Kick-off time just confirmed on the UEFA official page:

18.00 Portuguese/English Time.

Less drinking time before the game, more drinking time after the game!

I would recommend Cascais as well, really nice beach place, there is a nice hotel called The Albatros there which is about 2 mins away from the train station and overlooks the beach. The trains are brilliant there as well, pretty new and really big, I was really impressed when I was there at just how much better they are than in this country.
