Benching Sterling was ultimately the right decision imo. It means the crowd don't have a focal point for their anger.

Ederson

Walker Otamendi Kompany Laporte

Fernandhino Gundogan

KdB Silva Sane

Jesus

Interesting, but as usual Pep throws a curve ball.

Now if Mendy was at left back that would be unstoppable, both full backs bombing on while ferny drops into a back 3.

Not a fan of the line-up tbh. Lose legs in midfield with Gundogan therefore lose control in midfield, lose width with no Sterling & Laporte up against Salah is naturally a little spooky.

But hey ho, can't really doubt Pep.

Their bench is fairly poor if it doesn't go well for them.

All about surviving the first 45 mins, if we're not behind by then I fancy a win.

Why didn't we just turn up hours before and negated this hostile crowd?

Yeah, I think he will start and play centrally too. He struggles out wide against Liverpool at Anfield, not sure if it's the proximity to the crowd (who are invariably baying for his blood) or just that his opposing full back is always well up for it (Flanagan, Milner, Robertson etc). I think if he plays centrally he can have a greater impact on the game, and it's tough to leave him out on current form. Michael Cox did a decent piece about it today:

Looks like we got it wrong again ha ha.

Last time we started with Fernandinho, Gundogan, De Bruyne and Silva together was the Carabao Cup final I think, and it didn't work particularly well then until Guardiola changed it after the break.
