Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Good win , well deserved based on the balance of play and great for a change to come from behind and secure all three points showing we still care about giving Arsenal as hard a time as possible for the title.

We need to of course to ensure we follow up with a win against Fulham.

Arsenal will drop points in their remaining 13 games so will we , we just have to ensure we drop 6 less.

Clearly the home game against them will be more pivotal than most in our title winning years if we continue to match or better their results.

As for the disallowed goal being as objective as I can be it should have stood , the foul on EH would mean the whistle blown then and there and letting the ball run its course as it was committed with the soul purpose to stop EH in an onside position from putting it in the net and the ball went into the net anyway. What EH did subsequent to the foul is not relevant other than the fact the ball was still in play and if deemed in play then its 3-1.

Great win. On the disallowed goal, it should stand. Cherki stuck the ball, it went in unassisted by anything or anyone else. Whatever Haaland and the other lad were doing were after the fact of the ball being put in the net. Yes the rules are the rules, but this is clearly a bad rule and needs changing. However for all the people and pundits talking about GD at the end of the season, the fact is had City turned half of their chances in matches against a whole host of teams into goals, GD would not be an issue. To suggest this incident/disallowed goal or anyone other will or might in some way 'deny' us the title is hogwash.

This result can change the season, that how big it feels today.

Once Haaland scores from the spot you could feel and see the change in the players' faces. Those last 10 minutes at 1.0 down you sensed it was not going our way, then the Silva goal changes everything, It's a funny old game and just one incident late on changes everything, That Buzz is still there and the players just needed a result like this

We can play and fight with the best of them, home and away. It's what you need to win silverware going to Anfield and winning speaks volumes

I see where your coming from but .... Cherki faces an open goal ,he is ,if your with me on this ,a greedy, needy type player.....his 1st thought would be to score.
Not pass.
He hit it towards the goal if Haaland hadn’t been held back with a foul Haaland would have scored in the open net

The match doesn't exist in a bubble, it affects the rest of the league.
Slabozhoweveryouspellit doesn't get suspended and would play against Sunderland, which they wouldn't be happy about just cos ref decided to ref the game for drama and vibes rather than the rules.

We would also have a better goal difference that could matter at the end too.
We would but, conversely, if the dips beat the rags to a European place by 1 goal, now that would be funny.

Actually think Szoboslai did that foul because it was his 'mate' Haaland, who he'd been failing to put off for the penalty. Reckon if it had been Marmoush going past him he'd have left him to it, but he just wasn't having Haaland getting another one over on him.
I agree.

The smile on his face after said it all.

If that 3rd goal yesterday would have been allowed to stand, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

The laws (of football) are an ass in this instance, any other game and a penalty goal would have been awarded. Just get the laws changed for the benefit of all.

Everybody has an opinion. You are the first person I have heard advocating the award of penalty scores in football.

Wenger and Infantino will be listening to you I'm sure

Just off the top of my head I can’t name three shite VAR decisions that have been a fucking joke , Palace handball cup final , disallowed goal at Newcastle the other week and yesterday. If that’s the way people want the game to go , including a fair few on here then they can have it . Really can’t be arsed anymore spending hard earned money to be at the mercy of wankers sat staring at screens and wondering how they can destroy a once wonderful game .

Interesting. This, at a guess, is easily the longest post-match thread this season (and maybe others) for a match that we won ! That says something about that extraordinary ending, but also just the sheer sense of effervescence around finally winning at Anfield.
To be honest, those two losses against them, home and away, in our Centurions season, still hurt. That year, of all years, we were utterly, utterly brilliant, and should have been celebrating our first CL trophy.
Anyway, we're here to celebrate a victory, so we move on…

@tolmie's hairdoo you going to come on and eat humble pie about Ait Nouri mate? Awesome display and fantastic defending.
Yep, he had a great game. I also don't consider him nowhere near good enough.

I've also seen Rico Lewis enter a Treble season and have great games.

He will never be a defender either! ;)

I can’t let a superb win after a resilient and gutsy display pass without a grumble about the officials. 0-0. City break and the ball goes to Semenyo, wide left with Erling coming through in the inside left channel. A real chance… when the whistle goes! Semenyo is given offside! No letting the move play out. No letting VAR decide. Stop the move … just in case. But sure, Arne, the officials are always against Liverpool. And no replay of the incident on TV.

But grest stuff, City, thrilled to bits , and still up in the clouds somewhere.
