Liverpool (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Did anybody get that total feeling of dread about 45 seconds after the 3rd goal that wasn't? The dickhead commentator starts going "Ooh wait there! Major controversy" etc etc. For a few seconds a genuinely thought it was that penalty claim just before the breakaway. I absolutely shit my kicks. Never been so happy to see the VAR for a goal we'd scored. Twoz an horrible 10 or 15 seconds I don't mind telling ya.
I definitely did and was very surprised to see that Pawson was actually watching the breakaway and not looking at the Kop end footage -it would’ve been vintage City at Klanfield for the Dippers to have been given a Penalty in this scenario

Everybody has an opinion. You are the first person I have heard advocating the award of penalty scores in football.

Wenger and Infantino will be listening to you I'm sure
They could do far worse and listen to some of those so called experts.

In all fairness that goal should have counted.

I am still fuming about it.

Just off the top of my head I can’t name three shite VAR decisions that have been a fucking joke , Palace handball cup final , disallowed goal at Newcastle the other week and yesterday. If that’s the way people want the game to go , including a fair few on here then they can have it . Really can’t be arsed anymore spending hard earned money to be at the mercy of wankers sat staring at screens and wondering how they can destroy a once wonderful game .
VAR are just kill joys ,Brook on VAR could easily had left the onfield decision , he had to be the star of the show , Howard Weddb should be firmly told its the players who are the stars , fans couldnt give a f*ck about officials and VAR they are faceless twats trying to grab some limelight.
The best referees are the ones you do not talk about after the game , which never happens now Webb and his attention seeking referees want to be involved and want to be controversial , our game is in a sorry state when nearly every game has a referee or VAR talking point , its getting tiresome

When Cherki took the shot and giving possession back to them to take a long goal kick had me screaming at the TV. Zero game management there but luckily the whistle went as soon as he took the goal kick

I can’t let a superb win after a resilient and gutsy display pass without a grumble about the officials. 0-0. City break and the ball goes to Semenyo, wide left with Erling coming through in the inside left channel. A real chance… when the whistle goes! Semenyo is given offside! No letting the move play out. No letting VAR decide. Stop the move … just in case. But sure, Arne, the officials are always against Liverpool. And no replay of the incident on TV.

But grest stuff, City, thrilled to bits , and still up in the clouds somewhere.
Yes, I thought that was strange when Semenyo was bearing down on goal. Though he did look well off in normal time

What a result. Mentioned this in the match day thread - couldn’t believe those shits booed Guehi all game.
Midfield and back line were immense. Special call out to Bernie, O’Reilly, Rodri, and Gigi.

Last goal incident felt farcical, but by the letter of the law it was the right call - let Szoboszlai sit in the stands for 3 games. Apparently he’s the Dippers’ 2nd fastest player and big Erl ran past him like I do with my 3 year old.

Wankers mate, Cherki must be fucking livid.

Just think of the Rags goal against us a couple of years ago, all off the ball shit but the goal was allowd to stand.
I've no sympathy for dipper fans.
But they lose there best player this season for the next game ( unsure how many games ban ) for common sense being removed.

Same here, but after seeing the match again, I think Cherki had a word with the ref, and knew it would be whistled off after the goalkick.

I see Sky are pushing the notion that Liverpool should have had a penalty just before the disallowed 3rd goal

They even have close up video evidence... which shows Rodri making a perfectly time tackle

You know, you're hundred percent right. Then again, there's the run and spirit of the game. You'd be hard pressed to find a Scouse fan who would rather have Szoboszlai sent off for 1-3 games than to have the goal count. To me, it was 50-50 - Szobo pulled Haaland; Haaland pulled him. Ball goes into the net. 3-1, game. And I think it was the absurdity of it. Going to VAR when we were past stoppage. Game not in doubt. Risk of injury if they continue playing. But - I loved the ending all the same.
Are there any videos of Donna at the final whistle or after the penalty is scored?. Just love the way he celebrates

Staggered to be fair.
A 1st half where we were well on top but couldn't score led one to think that the usual would happen - and indeed after the break, we were sluggish and Liverpool were much improved and then the inevitable Liverpool goal happened...
At that point I had no hope but the lads pulled their socks up and finally our slick break away play before Christmas returned with a vengeance to deliver a grade 1 "Rocking Horse Manure" ending.
Congrats to Haaland who delivered an inch perfect pen to send me bonkers. Even a "letter of the law (but not the spirit)" refereeing decision didn't stop us...
Keep up the class counter attacking blues and we might have a chance of catching Arse...
