Liverpool (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

Can't quite work out why, but I'm as buzzing about this result as much as anything since the treble season. Watched Youtube highlights when I got home, and watched MOTD when I woke up. Feels both like a statement and that we are playing with such joy at the moment. Maybe we will win the league, maybe we won't, but we have got Pep's City back. While every other team in the league is lumping long balls into the box he's found a system that unleashes three creative little geniuses while playing two attacking midfielders in support at left and right back.

Could see the mad bastard signing another extension at this point, he was enjoying it as much as we were.

Last time we won against Liverpool was Spring 2023, we were awful in both games against them last season so it’s a very good feeling for us blues this morning after witnessing the hammering that was dished out. Doku’s goal was the cherry on top of the performance.

Liverpool edged the possession stats yesterday with 51 percent. Seems like Pep has evolved and isn’t looking to sit on top of teams with high pressing and pinning a team into their own half. Sitting a bit deeper is opening more space for the likes of Haaland and Doku to get into and cause mischief.

Nico O’Reilly was very good yesterday, he was in a battle with Salah keeping him quiet. Other side of his game though is how high he gets up the pitch and it opens up the inside channel for Doku to get into. We seem to lose something as a team when he doesn’t play, Ait Nouri is going to have a job dislodging him from the starting line up.

Funny how they had no complaints with him ruling out our goal for a phantom foul on their keeper the last time he officiated. They moan also re Oliver but again fail to mention Villas goal from a corner v us that was a foul to us for a clear 2 handed push resulting in the corner.
Was it that twat who did that?

Pissed me off last week when the clear foul on Donnarumma wasn’t given but that was.

Superb performance. Everything has been said about the brilliant individual performances (Nico G, NOR, Doku, Nunes, Erling, Bernie, Dias, Foden etc), but no coincidence that the confidence is high with the big man in goal. An absolute winner and other players started to believe more. We shouldn’t underestimate how big a signing that was.

As pointed out on here throughout last season...

Better late than never - what a treat to have watched three pacy games in a week, with 10 goals.

Yep, clear to see how he just tries to sneakily walk away afterwards without anyone noticing him, unlike all the other dippers who went into an immediate frenzy of celebration.
Except they didn't!
All reds knew exactly what would follow, as their half-hearted untalented acting sort of yeah celebration has shown.
The little jumps of van dijk and szobszlai - LOL, unconvincing I'd say.

I know him very well having assessed him in his early years ,he is most definitely NOT a Man City /Utd or Liverpool fan .A non league team is his favoured side .Give the guy a break please
Give him a break? What have I done wrong?
my only real criticism of him in the post was he failed to give an obvious foul which I stand by.

Other than that I criticised whoever put him in charge of this game, as he’s from greater Manchester, so easy for the dippers to complain and for city fans there’s a lot of rumours about him being a dipper.

I called out that officially he’s a Droylesden fan.
I think my comment was fair and my main criticism was for his selection, as if a big decision went against either team the fans would cry foul.
Unfortunately for him it was the dippers and they’re not as forgiving as City fans.

Must say, when we missed the obligatory pen against them I thought it was going to be one of those days again. To keep our heads and batter them was brilliant. I wasn't sure on the disallowed goal, but there's this big assumption Donnarumma isn't impacted by Robertson and dived and didn't get there and wouldn't have anyway - who knows in truth. If part of his mind felt Robertson might get a touch then he doesn't fully commit. There's too much nonsense from these set pieces with people being blocked and all this NFL style shite, right decision to disallow it for me. The refs need to wrestle control back so the game doesn't become as dull as Arteta wants it to be.

Everything we've seen this season now shows that Pep has re-built a title-challenging side. That's why you are buzzing.
The thing that is getting overlooked is that HE HAS DONE IT WITHOUT SEVERAL OF OUR BEST PLAYERS!!!!!

I would never have dreamed even a couple of months ago that a City team without Stones, Rodri, Reinders and Alt Nouri would outplay Liverpool like that.

Amazingly we had just 49% possession and 83% passing accuracy today.
I would expect Pep will want to improve on this significantly for his next 1000 games in charge.
Add this to how we play now and that will be some sight to behold.
You do realise we were way more direct, right? Not just passing side to side - there were plenty of forward balls. We’re playing much more direct now.

This Haaland on VVD to stop the pass to him from the goalie stopped lot of passing through the lines! I said 2/3 years ago you should man mark VVD because everything mainly goes through him

I think as fans we sometimes get caught in the motion but no player should ever be abused if they wear the sky blue shirt CTID
No player is Sky Blue should be abused in my opinion. Considered objective criticism is fine; the problem is too many do not really have a clue and there is a consistent failure to realise that whilst Pep is human and therefore imperfect, he has a elite football brain and if he is showing faith in players, there’s a good reason. Clearly his options were limited at times last season year but you only have to listen to Pep talking about Bernardo to appreciate why a lot of comments directed at him last season were out of order and lacking understanding (in two senses).
