Liverpool (H) | Post match thread

It could have been won, but Liverpool are super clinical so it is what it is. I do feel like we outplay them to some degree though and there's a reason they haven't beaten us for some time now. 3 seasons at least it feels like. the feeling for me has always been we're in a slight transitional this year with some holes in our squad after a poor summer yet we are top of the league anyway and favorites to win with 7 games left.

It was one of those games where I'd have taken a draw before the game, but by the end of it I thought we were worth winners.

KdB absolutely ran the show today and some of his passing was outrageous. He is coming into some form at the right time and if he can keep that up we will have someone who can win titles on his own. Bernardo also put in a shift as usual.

Am I the only one who thinks that Stones is now one of the best central defenders in the world? When he needs to, he can get stuck in but when he's got the ball he is absolute class. He glides into midfield and makes it look so easy. Him and Laporte were immense on the ball. I thought Ederson needed a rocket up his arse though in the first half as he switched off and left the passes a little late for me. Good overall game though.

I do think you've seen the two best teams in the world today. I'm probably in a small minority of City fans who has a lot of respect for Klopp. His teams play football and entertain the crowd. They never sit back and are always making chances. Give me Pep and Klopp everyday of the week. The likes of Conte, Tuchel etc are happy to frustrate and sit back and make games dreadful and frustrating. When football is played like it was today, it's a joy to watch.

We absolutely dominated the game and we all know that once we get Kane/Haaland etc then we will move up to another level.

A word on the ref - what an absolute disgrace he was today. How Fabinho and Thiago stayed on the pitch is beyond me. The lunge on Bernardo was late, wild and on the leg - straight red for me that. Just to show I'm not biased, how did he miss the deflection off Laporte for Liverpool as well? I do find it staggering that we will check if Sterling's pubic hair is offside, but won't bother checking appalling fouls and deflections.

Anyway, the title is in our hands and our run in is slightly easier. Liverpool can finish on 90+ points again and miss out on a title. That in itself shows the quality of both teams.

I still think we will win the title and whilst the FA Cup game can go either way, I think we'll win the tie as well. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we end up in the CL final with them. Whatever either win this season, it will be fully deserved.

Anyway, onto Madrid. COME ON CITY!!!!!!
Think next week depends very much on the side that Pep puts out. Liverpool have United on the Tuesday after and we don’t play until the Wednesday so I think we should go strong. Be interesting to see what he does.

City played a very good game imo and the players will know they are the better side. So will Liverpool.

It was frustrating we didn't win given the balance of play but the result is OK. It's not out of Liverpool's hands and the games are being ticked off now.

In a strange way I think thats not a bad result today, we know we cant let up till the end of the season & I still think the dippers will drop points in one of the next three games,
If we had won a lot of the media & some supporters would have thought its all over but we really cant let our foot off the pedal now.
Agreed….It’s when we take our foot off the pedal that the problems start, think back to the last few games of last season when we had the league wrapped up, we had so much momentum going into that period, but it drained away over the course of the last month. Momentum in a football club is massive and I’d like Pep to keep things tight knit regarding playing time, 15-16 players at most without wholesale changes

Thought pep got it spot on with tactics and selection and players gave him exactly what he wanted….except being clinical

not sure how they didn’t get at least one red, especially given the soft yellow for Bernardo when the player was heading towards his own goal.

much the better team and Liverpool players will be getting back on the coach knowing they’re lucky to escape with a point

We saw a level today from City, which, at times, is miles beyond anyone else playing the same game today.

We should have been three or four goals to the good in the first half.

A crazy opening ten-minute spell at the start of the second half cost us the three points, but we were still the team asking most of the questions.

Thought Ederson, Cancelo and Stones were ropey and Sterling was caught on his heels a too few many times, but all the lads showed the intensity we are going to need to win our remaining games.

Thought Rodri, Kev, Bernie and Phil were immense but Gabby was the best player on the pitch.

Liverpool were ordinary, to the point you wonder how they would manage without one of their strikers not coming to the rescue, as their midfield is fucking woeful.
Their midfield is woeful, you are right. I suspect that's because their defence generally by passes it as they hoof the ball forward to a very speedy and talented front three. If we had a couple of natural finishers that game, would as you say, have been over with after the first 45 mins. We were great in that first half.
