Liverpool Post Match Thread

All Liverpool did was run around like lunatics for the first hour. They were dead on their feet towards the end. I don't think that tactically Klopp is that smart. The usual City would have overwhelmed them because there's no way they could play like that for 90 minutes.

It was a very strange decision by Pellegrini. we all knew what Liverpool would do and it looked from recent team selections that Pellegrini knew that you can't play Toure in a light midfield but he did just that against the very worst opponent. 3 points thrown away by the manager and this league will be won or lost by the odd point.

give over marvin, liverpool had a lot more than just running around, you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise, yes we were crap, but in part that was down to the high pressing and klopp's set up, we had nowhere to go in the middle of the park and with stroller super strolling we were dead and buried after 30 mins

You can spin it how you like but Klopp picked the right team for the match. For example, he didn't pick Benteke because he wanted a team that would be mobile enough to carry out his tactics. Tactics which they absolutely leathered us using incidentally. Meanwhile we have a manager still playing Yaya in a role that every other person in the world seemed to recognise he could no longer play around 18 months ago. So as I say, Klopp seems to know more about his players' relative strengths and weaknesses after 6 weeks than ours knows after 2.5 years. They may have been dead on their feet towards the end but they were still carving out better chances at that point than we had all match. I think you underestimate Klopp. He's brought teams to the Etihad twice now and they have played us off the park for pretty much the whole 180 minutes, to say that it is just about running around like loons is utter fucking nonsense.
They've struggled in other games but played exactly the same way. I am not a big fan of the Klopp style and I don't think he will succeed at Liverpool because most managers will react and respond to their style. We were chasing the game of course they were creating better chances. Pellegrini got his tactics wrong and his starting line up wrong. The only thing I will say in his defence is that he did change it at half time, and in previous games he had shown some recognition of the limitation of Toure.

Are you having a laugh? Yaya, probably makes the most passes in the team but I'd guess that 90% of them are backwards and another 9% sideways... Personally I think he's just a bit thick... He is apparently the creative midfielder, so why when he receives the ball in the centre of the pitch does he gives it back to the likes of mangala or demechelis to find the creative pass?!
A probing forward pass is not always on. As with Scholes and Pirlo, the legs go, but the passing range never does

Yaya did have a sensational passing range a year or two ago. IMO when we won the title a couple of years ago his legs were already going and he was a bit of a liability defensively but going forwards, in every respect, he was still absolutely awesome, passing very much included. People currently only seem to focus on how the defensive side of his game has just got worse and worse. It seems to have gone relatively unnoticed that the attacking side of his game has slipped from absolutely wonderful to pretty ordinary in the last 12 months.

Klopp will do well at Liverpool IMO, particularly when he has had a couple of windows to fashion a team that can totally play the way he wants them to. It's not surprising they have had the odd game where things haven't worked out early on (I'm sure they will have more) as he is trying to get them to play in a very particular way which is very different from what they have been doing under Rodgers. We should have gone for him in the Summer.

I agree they overwhelmed our non-existent midfield, but it was entirely down to high energy. Nothing more sophisticated than that

I am not sure that there is anything more to Klopp than press press press.

if you think all Liverpool did was just ran around like lunatics for the 1st hour then you are so far off the mark its frightening, did you not notice their brilliant movement around our flat back 4 that enabled them to get in behind time and time again, did you not see them press our players in vulnerable positions all over the pitch giving them the freedom of the Etihad, they reminded me of a certain team in yellow from 4 years ago, this time the same style got their just rewards. If i was a Liverpool fan i would be very optimistic about the future, i would love us to play with the same intensity, work rate team work and creative flair that they provided yesterday, i just wish we had a manager who was in the slightest bit aware of what we were facing yesterday, instead of selecting a line up that was suicidal, but even worse stood and watched it unfold and didnt have a clue what to do about it.

Relatively well drilled at the back, press press press and quick, quality attacking football once in possession. Whatever, it certainly beats the shit out of playing the game at a snail's pace when in possession, not effectively pressing the opposition in any meaningful way when not in possession and being totally and utterly disorganised at the back.
