Liverpool Post Match Thread

I've read some post's on here saying it was a bad day at the office. BOLLOCKS what about the piss poor game against bottom of the table Villa the lucky 2-1 win v Norwich even the win against Newcastle when they were Winning 1-0 they had a perfect goal wrongly flagged for offside. With the squad we have should be at least 5 points clear

Couple of games in a row where Pellegrini has made some poor choices with line ups & substitutes in my opinion.

But not all the blame can be on him, the defending was shambolic from Mangala & Demichelis, was worried when I saw the line up but didn't imagine they'd perform that badly together.

Was clearly our worst performance of the season by some distance & the first time I've doubted our capability to win the title, in points lost in other games there's been large chunks of bad luck playing part, today was just a shambles all over. Hopefully we turn it around sooner rather than later because it's going to be costly.

A win against Juve would do wonders to pick the confidence back up, so I'm hoping for a performance to be put in there.
Difficult not to feel the same mate, particularly in the light of those pre-season games v Real & Stuttgart - REALLY hate to moan but it's a worry when you know we're capable of that type of performance.

Just felt brave enough to watch Match of the Day from last night. Jesus it was worse than I remembered!!!

Hope the players are made to watch the whole 90 minutes tomorrow

Watching it live was bad enough wild horses could not drag me to watch that again, the most disgraceful display I have seen in a long time

Even Pearce didn't manage a result as bad as that at home. The quality of our football was horrendous from the minute they scored.

I've been thinking about last night's game all day and had to get some things written down, so i wrote the following. It's a bit long and waffling but feel free to read!

One night last season I walked to the Etihad knowing full well what was about to unfold in the 90 minutes of football that lay ahead. We were playing a Barcelona team that had a midfield 3 consisting of Iniesta, Busquets and Rakutic and Manuel Pellegrini had decided to combat this with a brand new midfield partnership of Milner and Fernando. Not only this; but Pellegrini played the following four players in front of the brand new midfield: David Silva, Samir Nasri, Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero. Not only did this tactic leave the fledgling partnership a man short in the middle of midfield but also meant Zabaleta and Clichy were essentially playing one-on-one versus Neymar and Messi respectively. I lost a lot of faith in the manager that night.
So, to last night and that same feeling of inevitable dread. This time the manager decides to rest Fernandinho (our best player of the season) and Otamendi versus a rejuvenated Liverpool. This left City with the central defensive “partnership” of Martin Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala. Pellegrini will have his reasons for resting the two South Americans but it was apparent before kick-off it was a grave error; and it was even more apparent 20 minutes into the game.
It’s hard to be taken seriously as a City supporter voicing concerns when your team lies a couple of points from the top of the league and have already qualified for the knock-out stages of the Champions League (a task we usually find hard to do); but these are my main concerns:
Pellegrini
His tactical naivety, or as I see it stubbornness is a big problem. Liverpool were always going to have 3 in midfield yesterday and they were always going to press high up the pitch. How were City not prepared for this? And playing Yaya and Fernando in a midfield 2 against an energetic opposition is suicide.
Yaya
Yaya has been brilliant at City and will be long remembered but he needs to go now and be replaced with at least one young, ambitious, technically-gifted player. And when he does leave I hope he doesn’t slag off the club – because I’ve an awful feeling he will and tarnish his standing here.
Anyway, other concerns as follows:
Why can’t we control possession against half-decent opposition?
Fernando went hiding yesterday, please don’t resort to the player of last season
Why doesn’t De Bruyne take all set pieces – surely we are hindering ourselves?

Christ some people are embarrassing on here. Pellegrini out ..... ok he has made a few mistakes tactically but the amount is a lot less that the decisions he has got right. Its as much the players fault as Pellegrini. People was praising him vs sevilla ( o what a great line up he got it spot on ) have a bit of loyalty and stick by the man in charge, thats how you get sustained success !!!or at the very least keep the fucking consistency with your comments.
+1 - Whether he can take us to the next level remains to be seen but imo (to his credit) he practises what he preaches in that he values loyalty & trusts ALL the players in our squad to do the job he asks them to do - I'm sure when he says no-one is more important than anyone else he means it - that's reflected in his team selection - the players he picks he genuinely has trust in - that could account for why he takes so long to make any changes.

I'm usually a tolerant guy, having suffered all thru the 80's and beyond but that performance made me more angry than any I can remember. I'm fine with losing. I am not fine with both players and the manager giving every appearance of not giving a fuck. There has to be consequences for such a display, beginning with several players who should never be seen again except in emergencies. And as Pel just sat there and watched the disaster his team and tactics preordained unfold without doing a thing then he needs to go as soon as practicable.

My assessment of yesterday's game is as follows:

Poor team selection, Fernandinho and Otamendi should have played now matter how 'tired' from a luxurious flight they might be.

Pellers was tactically bummed.

i got a lot of stick in the summer for suggesting the unthinkable - that we had targeted the wrong areas. I said all along that we were in desperate need of another CM. Without Yaya (who has done nothing this season) and Fernandinho who to his credit has been great we have nothing in midfield.

Fernando and Delph are about championship level. Yesterday should be seen as a collective; wrong transfer strategy in the summer, poor management from Pellers and players off form.

And I now hope some of the know it alls on here start to realise that.
I agree with you pal....know it alls are reeeaallly irritating.
