Liverpool - post match thread.

Yet another piss poor start to a game fucked us over.
Liverpool got what they wanted early doors and then let us have possession and tried to get another on the break.
Anyone thinking we were better in the 2nd half should think again. We were out manoeuvred at every turn. We got what our tepid timid display deserved!
Roll on crushing Burnley cos I need a pick me up that doesn't involve alcohol!!

We were better in the second half. That was very evident. What we lacked was a genuine goal scoring thread.

Many at fault last night, aguero was shite as was KDB, yaya free kick was shite as was Kolarovs pass then attempt at winning a header. It's been said how we have no leader but seemingly very little plan too. I don't know if it was noticed but when we won that free kick silva was standing over it, realised there was little on and backed out of any responsibility and passed it onto yaya.

The players don't press and harass the other players, something that happens to us nearly on a daily basis. Pep bangs on about second balls yet we never win one. We are slow, laboured and shite and to have a manager in Pep and the attacking players on display playing like that is fucking criminal. I joked at the time when Utd drew there that whilst we are taking the piss about how defensive they were we will almost guaranteed leave there with nothing.

We have a team of shit bags and seemingly a manager who can't work with players with less ability than what he is use to. They aren't good enough to do what he wants them to do. Bravo whilst you couldn't really fault him for the goal it's another game we leave where the opposing team had one attempt on target and scored it.

Yay, first Shit bag of the New Year!

People said last year and even the year before that a poor transfer policy has been the problem...while i don't doubt this is an issue (especially concerning defenders and a lack of fullbacks (now encompassing loaning out the one bright spark from he academy who looks like he could slot in even now - maffeo) its not addressing the real issue that both Pellers and now Pep are failing at.

Both (to a lesser extent but moe concerning with Pep) are failing to get the best out of the squad of players that they have as both are trying to play in a way and set their team up in a way that actually exposes our weaknesses defensively.Pellers 2 man midfield with Yaya was suicidial at times against the bet teams...everyone could see it and yet he persisted and we lost/drew to all the top few teams in the prem.

Again this season Pep has failed badly against the two teams (liverpool and spurs - arguable 3 if you include leciester) that a lot of fans knew weeks prior to kick off we would struggle against if we played in the manner which Pep likes to with the players we have....we can get away with this against the likes of hull as a lot of the time the don't have the confidence or the players to come and attack us (but even in those types of games we can see attires that if they took a chance or two we could come undone)....

Against the best teams our midfield and defensive set up is getting exactly what Pep deserves at present - absolutely fuck all! Numerous posters on here commented over the last few weeks about how we would get hammered in midfield by liverpool (especially in the opening half hour at anfield).....it was obvious that clop was going to flood the midfield with a fast paced hard working bunch of players and thats what he did and they completely dominated us first half....Why didnt Pep send his team out prepared for this? He could have used fernando in the first half knowing that eventually liverpool would run out of steam which they did and allowed us to get more control...instead he asked KDB, Silva and Yaya to defend..none of which are capable under those circumstances.......in the second half they were less aggressive (though still had chances) and contained us quite easily with the threat of a break away always being there.

Its not his picking of certain players that is the main problem (though how Kolarov gets a game i don't know as he is an absolute disgrace of a player - one who i cant wait to see the back of) but its what he is asking the players to do -they are not capable of it....so the question is do we waste another season in (we have already wasted 2 under Pellers preparing for this) or should Pep change it.....

I know there is a long term plan.....Im happy with that. But that is NO excuse for failing so badly in the moment. He can do better with what eh has and should be adapting his ways to fit the players he has instead of continuing this way. He did it vs barca......why doesn't he do it against the likes of liverpool or spurs......is he underestimating these teams as well as over estimating our own capabilities cause it seems this way

I think you make some very valid points. However would you rather Pep makes mistakes in his first season and we reap the benefits of the lessons learned, both through him and the players, next year? Or that he keeps chopping and changing so we scrape points, which has equal risk if you ask me. Pep isn't going to abandon his system, that's not why he was brought in and what's the point of bringing Pep Guardiola in if we want him to play counter attack against Liverpool? We may as well have signed Ranieri.

Everyone is raving about Klopp and Liverpool but forgetting they finished 8th in his first season in the prem! Equally people asking why he keeps changing the personnel whereas Chelsea and Liverpool don't? Well maybe because they will play at least 10 less games than us this season? Maybe because their average age is younger?

Pep isn't going to abandon his ethos and suddenly manage like Simeone or someone. Equally you're basically implying we are lucky against sides like Hull because they don't hassle and press us? What about against good sides like Arsenal and United where we've won? The reality is this team is probably performing to its current capabilities.

At the start of the season most people didn't expect us to walk the league and that's because when you look at our side against the other teams there's not much in it. Us and Chelsea have the best attacking talent imo but we certainly don't have close to the best defensive talent. Especially given our injuries. Then you have to factor in the fact Chelsea and Liverpool don't have Europe and are younger and fitter.

Pep seems to have done himself no favours by starting the season so well. We are going through a very mixed patch and will probably only finish 3rd or 4th but hopefully in the summer Pep will address the problems he's seen first hand. We aren't going to magically transform overnight.

Watch it again, second half there was a 15 minute spell where they could barely get out of their half. We were suddenly aggressive and hunting them down, without actually creating much. My issue is, why do we turn this aggression on and off like a fucking tap?
