Liverpool - post match thread.

People said last year and even the year before that a poor transfer policy has been the problem...while i don't doubt this is an issue (especially concerning defenders and a lack of fullbacks (now encompassing loaning out the one bright spark from he academy who looks like he could slot in even now - maffeo) its not addressing the real issue that both Pellers and now Pep are failing at.

Both (to a lesser extent but moe concerning with Pep) are failing to get the best out of the squad of players that they have as both are trying to play in a way and set their team up in a way that actually exposes our weaknesses defensively.Pellers 2 man midfield with Yaya was suicidial at times against the bet teams...everyone could see it and yet he persisted and we lost/drew to all the top few teams in the prem.

Again this season Pep has failed badly against the two teams (liverpool and spurs - arguable 3 if you include leciester) that a lot of fans knew weeks prior to kick off we would struggle against if we played in the manner which Pep likes to with the players we have....we can get away with this against the likes of hull as a lot of the time the don't have the confidence or the players to come and attack us (but even in those types of games we can see attires that if they took a chance or two we could come undone)....

Against the best teams our midfield and defensive set up is getting exactly what Pep deserves at present - absolutely fuck all! Numerous posters on here commented over the last few weeks about how we would get hammered in midfield by liverpool (especially in the opening half hour at anfield).....it was obvious that clop was going to flood the midfield with a fast paced hard working bunch of players and thats what he did and they completely dominated us first half....Why didnt Pep send his team out prepared for this? He could have used fernando in the first half knowing that eventually liverpool would run out of steam which they did and allowed us to get more control...instead he asked KDB, Silva and Yaya to defend..none of which are capable under those circumstances.......in the second half they were less aggressive (though still had chances) and contained us quite easily with the threat of a break away always being there.

Its not his picking of certain players that is the main problem (though how Kolarov gets a game i don't know as he is an absolute disgrace of a player - one who i cant wait to see the back of) but its what he is asking the players to do -they are not capable of it....so the question is do we waste another season in (we have already wasted 2 under Pellers preparing for this) or should Pep change it.....

I know there is a long term plan.....Im happy with that. But that is NO excuse for failing so badly in the moment. He can do better with what eh has and should be adapting his ways to fit the players he has instead of continuing this way. He did it vs barca......why doesn't he do it against the likes of liverpool or spurs......is he underestimating these teams as well as over estimating our own capabilities cause it seems this way

Yesterday was my 30th visit to Anfield since 1975 and I have only seen us win once there. The first half was pitiful but only to be expected with the age profile of our team and the energy of Klop's players. We made it easy for them yesterday. Everytime we go there I think...don't concede the first goal. Their crowd yesterday was as quiet as I have seen for years. We played right into their hands. I wouldn't slag our players for effort. I thought we did work hard but were half a yard slower then theirs and I include Sergio and Silva in that. We need five or six players under the age of 25 by the end of next Summer. There's no point moaning, we just have to get on with it. We are not the first team to hang on to our great players too long...and we won't be the last.
It's this.

Hate to compare, but United kept hold of Ferdinand, Giggs and Scholes for 3 years longer than they should have. And it had a really detrimental effect on their club.

We should have sold Yaya 2 summers ago and Kompany will never play a 30 game season for us again. I love Vincent but I'd rather have an 8/10 centre back that can play 50 games a season than a 10/10 centre back that can only play 15.

Kolarov was wank but he wasn't as bad as Aguero and KDB, they're the ones that should be getting shit on here not Kolarov[/QUOTE

Pep needs to get in the ear for playing him there. Its not worth the risk playing him at lb.
Just not good enough.

Kdb and aguero starved of service ,fair play to Liverpool. We couldn't live with their midfield.

Give over he's fcking abysmal constantly.
Dippers did a good job on KDB and Aguero was admittedly disappointing.

Exactly so what do you expect from him? Pep's to blame for starting him

As for kdb, I thought he was shit and had nothing to do with dippers doing a good job on him

Both him and Aguero might as well have not played because they were anonymous

Silva didn't play well but at least he put in effort

I haven't seen anyone abandoning Pep. I see some very reasoned questions abou some of his decisions.

Have you noticed we're reversing away from the league leaders at the moment ?

So posts saying they have lost faith in Pep isn't abandoning him?

Weak mentalities as I say.

I agree with you there - he should be nowhere near the club, let alone the team. Can't fathom his selection.

As stated by many who played under Pep it relies on players buying into his philosophy. It then relies on them carrying out that strategy every minute of the game. We have players clearly not buying into it and certainly either not capable or wishing to carry out instructions on the pitch. He doesn't seem like a man who's concerned and although yesterday was disappointing we kept Liverpool down to their least number of shots at home. Klopp admitted he had to change their formation. Still think we are prioritising the champs league. I think we will see some big changes this summer. My only concern with the Pep scenario is as follows. I think it will take him a couple more seasons to get the team performing the way he wants with the players he wants. Is this enough time before the three years up. Then who comes in that will continue the same philosophy and use the same players? I do think he's going to need to stay longer than three years to see this all through. He will get it right but ultimately time is not on his side. Predict a convincing win tomorrow.

Yet another piss poor start to a game fucked us over.
Liverpool got what they wanted early doors and then let us have possession and tried to get another on the break.
Anyone thinking we were better in the 2nd half should think again. We were out manoeuvred at every turn. We got what our tepid timid display deserved!
Roll on crushing Burnley cos I need a pick me up that doesn't involve alcohol!!
