Liverpool Post Match

Savage and Murphy on MOTD 2 have just said what many on here have been saying and have said for some time. Listening again to Pellegrini's interview he keeps saying,''We have to get back to playing as we can'' and i think that is his way of saying the players need to get their head out of their arses and pull their finger out!

The problem is he is stuck with the midfield he has. Fernando and Fernandhino were supposed to be the hard working grafters to shield the back four but both are woefully inadequate at this. Silver and Nasri are too attack minded and Ya Ya just hasn't got the legs now to get backwards and forwards all game. As a consequence of this teams are just ploughing right through the middle of us straight at the back four. We could play the Dog and Duck these days and they would create three or four chances against us. If you look at games we have won fairly well,Newcastle aside, the other teams had at least two or three chances to score but missed them which could have meant a whole different result.

For workrate alone Millner has to start every game in the middle of midfield not out wide. They have to get back to basics and stop teams cutting through us at will try and come up with a system that works. At the end of the season at least two hard working tough tackling mobile midfield players have to come in and the defence needs looking at too but at the moment they just have no protection at all.We face a tough fight to finish in the top four at this rate.Today was one of two away i thought we would get beaten,Spurs being the other one and i would even say a fired up rag team would beat this lot unless they grow some bollocks, start working together as a unit and team and take some responsibility!

Good summary that mate .... we can't play 2 CMs with Yaya as one of two in big games ... it doesn't work and it has been proven so a number of times now .... it has to be two from either Milner, Fernando, Fernandinho with Yaya playing ahead of the two and unfortunately Silva would have go to the left .....What I don't get is its a double positive for us, we tighten up the midfield AND give Yaya the license to do what he's best at and get forward ...

The player politics bother me as well Nasri has played well recently but he is not always the best in these high tempo games yet Milner doesn't get a start and I just can't figure out why...... and Yaya could be the sh*ttiest City player on the pitch, he cold be strolling around and he still wouldn't get subbed ..... Its NOT right!!!

Agreed, the Yaya problem and the manager doing nothing about it is so frustrating, he's still brilliant but it's plainly obvious we cant go to places like that with him in 2. And it's been obvious for years to be fair!! Really dont get the reluctance, it would get more out of Toure if he was further forward anyway. Look at Liverpool, Gerrard has more ability than Henderson, Allen and Lucas but they look so much better without Gerrard because he just cant do what he used to be able to physically.

We didn't deserve to win the game. Their work rate on and off the ball was superior to ours. They wanted it more, and we looked like we didn't have the self-belief to grind out a win. So in the end we got what we deserved. With both their goals if our players had the desperation needed in a big game, those shots would have been shut down with a player dashing out and closing down the shot.

In relation to Pellers, I really started to lose faith when it was 1-1 and the announcer said that Fernando was getting ready to replace Silva! That only changed because Candlepool scored while Fernando was getting ready to come on.

The reality is that the word has been out for some time as to how to play against us. Even teams like Middlesborough have shown how vulnerable we are. Yet we stubbornly continue to employ the same tactics.

It's simply not good enough and we need to re-think our tactical (and mental) approach urgently. Otherwise it's entirely possible a top 4 place may be in jeopardy.

In theory yes. But in reality no matter how poor our opponents or great our defenders are , they will still have some shots especially shooting from afar. Its when they have more than 40% or more success rate with their meagre no. of shots ( 5 shots or less) we have to ask ourselves why.

The 2nd goal is a perfect example. Did Hart adapt (or that he is plain not up to par) after letting in the first goal which was almost similar.
We can't blame Pellers for this shortcoming.

No keeper would have stopped either of those 2 goals, the problem lies in the time they were given to take the shot in the first place not with Joe

Sorry to say Hart had the time & space and LOS. The shots were way outside the box & Hart was ready & set for them.
2nd shot , if Hart was up to par & had adapted, is not difficult to save the shot (70/30% between goalposts)

Not getting into an argument here, just my opinion, but I really think the time and space that they were given, is the main contributing factors to both goals, not Joe
