Liverpool Post Match

I'm so tired of 4-4-2. It works against shit teams and against those it's great to watch. In matches against teams mid table and above it doesn't work. Pellegrini is driving me utterly mad with his rigidity.

every man and his dog knew liverpool would press us high, apart from the manager and players

and that tells its own story

we looked like we played extra time and penalties on thursday.

the second half display was unacceptable on any level, it summed it all up when toure got caught on the 18 yrd box with three liverpool players pressing him into a mistake allowing sturridge to nearly capitalize
where was yaya's help? no desire to it seems!

Correct so what do we do? Keep to what we always do and disrespect the opposition by playing the same type of football! What we should of done is have AGUERO up front on his own pack the midfield sit back and defend leaving no space for Liverpool players to run into. We hit them on the break with one of the best strikers in the world..

Nah, its much easier handing over the mid field battle week after week and expecting a moment of genius to pull us out of the shit

I'll happily admit I'm not a great one for analysing tactics and the technicalities of what is just a game of football to me. But there appeared to be a clear shift in tactics when Edin went off and James Milner came on, that I assume, was more like the 4-5-1 everyone was clamouring for prior to kick off. Did we look any better for the change in tactics? Personally I thought we looked less dangerous than when we were an obvious 4-4-2.
What I did find concerning is the way we continue to play against teams that play like Liverpool. As plenty of people have mentioned, they get into the opposition, close down quickly, press from the front with all three forwards working really hard and prevent teams building slowly from the back as we like to do. Amazingly, that's exactly how they played against us last season and yet we looked completely surprised by it (again). If one if the players came out and said that prior to the game they'd never discussed how they thought Liverpool would set up and how to combat it, would anyone be surprised, because that's exactly how it looked. By hook or by crook we have to develop a system to deal with teams who play this way because it will quickly become the default method of playing against us.

Exactly the same last Tuesday, used the tactics that didn't work last year

Poor.

Should have gone 4-3-3 with Fernando, Fernadinho and Yaya in the middle.

For all the games that Fernando has started, this is the EXACT sort of games he was signed for. How often did Liverpool run at our defence yesterday?! I think I lost count it was so many.

4-4-2 with Dzeko, Nasri and Silva was far too attacking. The defence got no protection whatsoever.

I hate to say it, but it was really poor tactics again from Pellegrini.

Laboured and unimaginative, Liverpool the better side. Poor tactically, poor in exection. We have spent apallingly in recent transfer windows (astronomical fees for average players) and we have not improved at all.
