Not quite sure what your point there is mate. If you need explaining, it's a phrase to describe a club that does not seem destined for big things, is not one used to success. It is overshadowed constantly by other 'big time' 'famous' clubs.

Look obviously to us as City fans, who will support the club even if they play in the conference league for 10 years, a 35 year drought with quite a few relegations takes nothing off the fact that to us, City are the greatest club in the world

But when my dad supports Liverpool and witnesses the absolute dominance they had over English and European football. To him, City were a small club. And it will have been to most of the other 'big four' clubs. I don't get mad about this. It's the cold hard facts of the matter. But hopefully, over the next few years we can add to our mantel piece and cement our place in European football. In fact not hopefully, i'm confident we will.

Which I was saying, is funny considering the other 100 pages in this thread are shouting with glee that Liverpool are an 'irrelevant' 'delusional' 'small' ''midtable' and 'mediocre' club.. all off the fact that they haven't finished in the top four for three years. I mean if I as the biggest City fan in the world can see the hypocrisy and delusion in that, surely anyone can.

This chap has seen a pic of Martinez walking down the road with their owner and is already like this. That' is it, 2 guys walking down the street drinking a coffee and you get this vitriol.

If they are not going to give a manager a chance who does not have a liverpool badge tatooed on their heart then before they even start they are starting with one arm tied behind thier back.

Liverpool are not an upper midtable club. Yes they have finished upper mid table for the past three years. That means they have an upper midtable team. Simple concept really and one that many of my fellow City fans refuse to acknowledge. As much as we love saying it, it's not true. Three or four years out of contention doesn't suddenly turn you into an irrelevant midtable team that means nothing on the big stage. Liverpool and as I much as I hate saying it, the Rags are the only two clubs in England that hold actual European prestige. They are among Juventus, Milan, Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, Ajax etc in being the biggest clubs in football. Arsenal do also to an extent but the fact that they haven't yet won the biggest prize in club football keeps them from reaching the level of the other two. Who have both won it multiple times. I know you might not like admitting it but Liverpool have been European Champions in the last decade adding to their monumental four other wins. They remain one of the only English clubs to have won at San Siro, Bernabeau and Camp Nou (I think they are the only team to have done this). Only four years ago they were ranked number one in Europe on UEFA coefficients. Just because they endured a boardroom battle that almost crippled the club for two years and still are trying to find their feet again doesn't mean they lost all of what they once were.

Discourse changes so quickly when it suits your objective. If you think Liverpool are an irrelevant midtable club, why is there not an Aston Villla thread that is 113 pages long? I also fear to think what you think we are. You'd fit into the club that says we bought all of our success and because of that it means nothing. Such is the simplicity and idiocy of you logic.

Take Juventus. Haven't had the most success untill recently. Had all the threats and accusations aimed at Liverpool aimed at themselves, when they are absolute giants of the game. Giants. I found it stupid then and I find it stupid now.

Once they get back into the Champions League, these past 4 years will have been forgotten. I mean just like all us City fans forgot everything before we were bought. I just find it sad that City fans who should know more than anyone call a club like Liverpool, small and irrelevant. It's funny honestly. this is the general football forum, for football fans, not just city fans post in here. we have large threads for other big clubs because we like to discuss about what goes on there for whatever reason. rather than having countless different threads on one club about different things, it's all crammed into here and merged. not all of this thread is slagging you lot off so chill out.

I get that there is a need for that on a general football forum. I was just saying the criticisms levelled at Liverpool within the thread make no sense in the context of the situation they are being made in.
I don't really care that many of you think that I am a Liverpool fan. It doesn;t change the fact that i'm not. I hope to see you around another time around another discussion. I'm trying to use the forum more often and this is just a discussion I wanted to start. Why that makes me a Liverpool fan I don't really know.

Maybe I have posted a few other things about them (maybe three posts? such is how little I actually post!) but I have only started following football properly fairly recently and the only thing I have a vast knowledge of, other than City is Liverpool on account of it being my fathers love.

I get that there is a need for that on a general football forum. I was just saying the criticisms levelled at Liverpool within the thread make no sense in the context of the situation they are being made in.
I'm not even going to bother commenting on the fact that you are insinuating I am a Liverpool fan. I'm not really. I hope to see you around another time around another discussion. I'm trying to use the forum more often and this is just a discussion I wanted to start. Why that makes me a Liverpool fan I don't really know.

Maybe I have posted a few other things about them (maybe three posts? such is how little I actually post!) but I have only started following football properly fairly recently and the only thing I have a vast knowledge of, other than City is Liverpool on account of it being my fathers love.

the league positioning tells me they are irrelevant until we play them and until they play the other title challengers.

there's a lot going on over there that makes us blues laugh, we have commented on it, so what?

we have more posts on spurs and ushited.

i'm sure everyone had loads of comments on us during august 2008 when the sheik came in, as it was an exciting talking point.

liverpools problems are part of the drama of football and we're discussing it, if you have a problem with that then internet forums aren't for you.
