No it isn't. Or it is maybe from an accountant's viewpoint but football isn't played between balance sheets (despite what Arsenal think).

In the book "Pay As You Play" by Paul Tomkins, Graeme Riley and Gary Fulcher, they carry out an analysis based on something called Total Transfer Value. So, in real terms (based on football transfer price inflation) what is your current squad worth?

Generally speaking, the squads with the highest worth should outperform those with a lower worth but some managers will do better or worse than others, both by buying shrewdly and/or managing their resources better. So what you sold Player x for has no bearing on whether Stewart Downing is good value or not.

And they're all Liverpool fans by the way.

i am not saying anything different at all , i only concentrated on net spend on a transfer kitty point of view , not in any other sense like player value or squad's worth , there was a discussion on our spend , so i said it's all net transfer spend that should matter

We sold alonso , mascherano etc. As well to raise the money , it's net spend that matters , we usually spent £36m gross and recouped £20m through sales which was not idle at all

So you're saying LFC's done really well balancing the books in the Premier league era

What was 230m?

That's how much they backed him with over his time at Liverpool

We sold alonso , mascherano etc. As well to raise the money , it's net spend that matters , we usually spent £36m gross and recouped £20m through sales which was not idle at all

So Benitez never spent 230m

Mascherano was sold under Hodgson.

So that's four or five years minimum of mid table mediocrity JW's just committed LFC to

We NEED to stick with SOMEBODY for a change. This ctrl-alt-delete thing every year is not going to work.

I'm not as sour on our owners as other LFC fans. They did give King Kenny (bless him) a lot of money. They are not rich like your owners--and even your owners aren't just spending indefinitely no questions asked (that's a stereotype that has taken hold that's not accurate).

We have no god given right to be anywhere because we are Liverpool. We certainly should want to win and to be among the top clubs in the world, but at this point in time, building our financial base to a solid footing, and maintaining progress in a positive direction is what is important.

I'd like to see our scouts/BR get some gems in the market. I'd like to see if 3-4 of the kids can emulate Sterling and at least make the bench.

(Allen looks like he might be worth the cash but I'll eat my own faeces if Borini isn't a failure at £10m)

Borini doesn't look like a winger to me, but Rodgers must have seen something in training that he's decided Borini's a great wide player.

To me Borini is more Inzaghi/Hernandez than an attacking midfielder.

it was like you have to spend a net sum of £20m , now we can spend £70m if we like but then we have to sell our good players bcz owners wouldn't release that kind of money without sales , now we bought barry for £20m+ , but we fucking sold alonso for £30m , it will look like we spent £20m+ on a player but in truth we sold our best player as well

Rodgers is tactically weak when it comes to Premier League football. Like AvB he operates under the idea that opposing managers will cower and stack 10 men behind midtable premier league players who play keepball.

They will lose, and lose again if he doesn't realize that they need two midfielders rather than Lucas to hold the shape of the team.
