That’s just it....they are pig ignorant and so full of themselves and up their own arses that they didn’t think they were tempting fate, it was fait accompli before the end...it was theirs, they deserved it, it was over!

Yep,Souness was a brilliant player,hard as nails but would literally stamp his authority on central midfield for Middlesbrough intially, then Liverpool.
That combo of Souness Kennedy and Mcdermott ,later Sammy Lee too,was one of the hardest working midfields ive ever seen in top class football-no wonder they won a shed load of trophies..the first 3 players in particular would take it in turns to make lung busting runs from deep central midfield,completely confusing the opponent, running onto long passes,beating the offside trap to score.

For a very short time under Machin,Ian Brightwell started doing this...with varying degrees of success..

Souness etc were instrumental in Liverpool putting 7 past spurs at anfield,destroying Bristol City 5nil at Ashton Gate....and smashing City at Maine rd year after year...painful memories . Souness was perfectly capable of of a bone shuddering challenge one moment,then an inch perfect 60 yard pass the next....top player in his day.
