Liverpool thread 2019/20

You have to earn a bit of respect by showing up in different threads with your thoughts on City. Alls I’ve read from you since joining up is backhanded compliments to liverpool and digs at blues and their complaints at how we’ve been shafted.
Can spot the wums a mile off. They don’t tend to be the brightest.
I’d think more of you if you’d been open on who you support.
You are a mess buddy, not once I showed liverpool support, just respect. I have been asking everyone just to show respect, and focus on our team. We tend to talk about liverpool more than ourself. This needs to stop, we went from rivals to just pure hatred. I for one, can't wait for the response to this next season.

Are you denying those two facts: (1) Liverpool have had more favourable decisions this season than City and (2) the Christmas schedule is designed to benefit Liverpool?

How do you make sense of the Christmas schedule?

Do you seriously think that Liverpool getting far more often controversial decisions in their favour is just a figment of our imagination, not based on any facts? Could you give an example of a decision favouring City from the start of the season to the Wolves game when the title was practically decided?

We have had injuries and have aging players in some positions, so Liverpool are deservedly top of the league. But do you think that they deserve to be 14 pts ahead of City with a game in hand? That they have been so much better? There are no statisitcal data which would support such a conclusion.

Take a look at that xG table: https://understat.com/league/EPL

Liverpool are outperforming their xG by 15 fucking pts. That's incredible over just 19 games. xG provides a statistical picture which may have serious limitations. But it is still better than most fans' views which are often skewed by various cognitive biases.

City fans are not happy because the difference in the performances between both teams hasn't been as big as the table suggests and because part of the reason why they are 14 pts clear is (un)intentional refereeing errors. Every other game played by Liverpool has involved dubious decisions. E.g., how is pushing Lovren against Palace a foul and Van Dijk pushing an Everton player in the box not a foul? Are the same criteria applied?

I'm not denying anything, because "controversial decisions" is a pretty meaningless term; they're either right or wrong. I'm not combing through every single decision made in every single match to confirm my preset biases.

There was nothing controversial about the 2 decisions at anfield yesterday - they were both right, and if anything, city got the benefit for their first goal. Personally, I prefer Var disallowing goals that are a millimetre offside, than allowing goals that are offside. I remember all fans saying that var would mean that Liverpool never get near a title, now it's one of the only reasons (along with UEFA and PED's of course) they're currently running away with it.

Fans of teams not winning the league never used to comb through xG to try and prove anything. City have played the better football this year and last, and they'll play the better football every year until Pep decides to move on, but that isn't a factor in deciding what points you feel you deserve versus what points you feel another team deserves.

I would say they've rode their luck this season, but that's all it is. I remember thinking the same about some of those old Liverpool teams, then the same about those fergie united teams. So many games they should have been 2 or 3 down, but then end up winning.

I just don't get the desperate dive into conspiracy theories, it reflects poorly on your club, and I have love for you guys. I want you to win, but losing is equally part of football. No one has told me yet what happens if the reverse happens next year. City get every marginal decision and liverpool get none (in their fans opinion). Would that be bent in your eyes, or would it be what they always deserved? We both know what the answer is if you're being honest, and yet it's a conspiracy this year.

You won't find a single set of fans happy with VAR, but I did see an ESPN deep dive a couple of weeks ago that showed Liverpool and city having the same amount going for you/them as against you/them. I can try and dig it out if you're interested?
