Liverpool thread 2019/20

The thing is this would be quite funny if it wasn't also a big part of the reason that referees have been terrified of giving a decision against them for the past few years.

Why would a referee make a decision that would have all their cheerleaders in the press on their back? It's much easier to give any decision their way as they know that won't be questioned.

How many times last season (and some this one regardless of the new rules) would a player would be flagged for offside when replays show they weren't? That happened to most teams pretty much every game except to Liverpool, who's double figures offside goals scored shows that their players were continually given the benefit of the doubt, for everybody else the benefit went to the defender which is specifically against the laws of the game.

The press don't mention a wrong offside decision if it doesn't go anywhere but if a team other than Liverpool score from an offside position then it's a huge talking point for a week or so, especially if it affects one of the press supported teams. Why would a linesman want to make that decision when it's easier just to flag for everything if you're not 100% sure?

It's the same with all the 50-50s, if a referee or linesman want an easy life with the press then they have to give them Liverpool's way. That's why they dive and cheat so much as they're pretty much guaranteed to get the decision their way. No match official wants the press on their back for being the one that 'destroyed the fairytale', I think that was the same reason Leicester got so many 'soft' penalties and were allowed to pull and hold so much when attacking or defending setplays when they won the league.

If the press are supporting you then officials will stay well out of their firing line if possible, no reporter will mention a Mane or Vardy dive but they'll be all over a penalty not given if the supported team drops points.

Over the last 8 or 9 years no team has cheated as often or as consistently as Liverpool have, their initial instinct in pretty much all situations is to see how they can somehow cheat. If its not diving then it's getting opposition players injured or sent off, they know they can do this because they know that they will always be given the benefit of the doubt. They know that the referee and the FA will turn a blind eye to almost anything within reason.

This pretty much explains how Robertson, et al have had no suspensions over the last few years despite regularly pulling players down in the box, punching, kicking and pushing players into hoardings.

Due to their consistent diving their press cheerleaders have had to come up with the phrase 'well, there's contact so he's entitled to go over' to explain away the antics of Suarez, Salah, Mane, Milner, Fabinho, etc. in fact pretty much the entire team except the keeper is a cheat in one or more ways. Every team has one or two wrong uns, Otamandi and Mahrez for example, but they manage to have an entire outfield of cowards and cheats.

This 'sportswashing' from the press on their behalf has now changed the rules of the game in this country which is why they've had so much help from VAR. It's been perfectly set up to help cheats in that when a replay is viewed the VAR operator doesn't look to see if somethings a foul or not they actually look for any kind of 'contact' so any team that's made a tactic out of instigating 'contact' and then falling over will always be at an advantage.

This is how the press control the league, the extra money and extra fans that come with it means being on TV or in the papers loads doesn't make too much difference to a teams fortunes on the pitch but if the press are completely behind you then you will be given more points than your performances deserve as you will always end up playing with the referees on your side.

Thays what I think anyway, I'm not convinced about the gambling rings and the other conspiracies but we've all seen with our own eyes how they get helped along by referees and I think it's down to pressure from press and the cowardice of the officials involved.

Pretty much all of the above goes for United too except that they probably have less out and out cheats in the team than Liverpool who are the snidiest team the Premier League has ever seen in my opinion, they've easily smashed the bar set by that horrendous Arsenal team with Pires, Van Persie and Fabregas.

All just my opinion of course.

TLDR- Liverpool are cheating ****s, Get favorable decisions from the refs and the media are biased towards them

Excellent post. imo They haven't been that good this season, bar the odd game. Just that the rest, us included, haven't been good enough.

Surely they are still in some other cup competions, aren't they? Maybe not!

Also heard an interesting airbrushed version of why Everton had to move grounds during the game, from Tyler.

I was more interested in the relationship between the three factors but you've basically nailed it!

Exactly, but I suspect that the fact we haven't been very good is massively linked to the treatment we got from referees and VAR earlier in the season, same goes for Liverpool too.

Knowing you can get away with handballs, diving, kicking and punching has got to give you a hell of a confidence boost on the pitch. The same way that knowing you need to score 5 goals to be awarded 3 and that your players can be kicked all over the pitch and you still can't buy a free kick or penalty would be seriously draining.

What's so irritating about the way this season has been officiated is that we could have been set up with an all time classic of an end of season. With a level playing field for all teams from day one we'd more than likely be up there with Liverpool and Leicester would be too if they hadn't had their points donated to the scouse cause.

This could have been one of the most exciting league seasons in years but thanks to the officiating between August and the end of December football fans the world over have been robbed of that.
