LOL, sorry Jimbo, but I think you are missing the point about what you are reading and where you are posting....
Liverpool and Liverpool fans have alot to be proud of, but there is also alot to be ashamed of and it comes with supporting the team. It also means that many of the comments have to be fully accepted. As has been said, if you dont like them, don't come here.
You just have to have the "thick skin" as has been said before and appreciate that it is all part of the tribalism that is football
Fair and balanced post. For me, it’s the pontificating from many Liverpool fans that grates the most. The notion that many of them hold that their club is somehow superior to others - and not just City btw. I would say they were the worst for it, especially on-line. It’s a ridiculous notion, especially given the shameful matters to which you refer. It’s aided and abetted by the club itself, of course, as demonstrated by the pompous and self-important “this means more” bollocks, which is beyond parody.

All clubs have darkness and light in their past - and I’ll never cease to remind Liverpool fans of the former when they start tediously preaching about the latter.

Last Friday I posted some stuff on the financial links between Everton/Liverpool and The Moores family/Littlewoods which started the late 50s/60s (in the CAS thread, p474). You may find this of interest. And what I touch upon is only the initial pump-priming for both clubs (£56k initial tax free loan for Everton; a £60k cash injection for Liverpool's transfer dealings). The financial support continued for the next couple of decades, enabling both clubs to win titles, get into European competition and develop as elite clubs.

I'm surprised at the Liverpool fan not knowing any of this. They are, after all, the most knowledgeable group of fans to be found anywhere on this rock we're all hurtling through Space-Time on, aren't they? Perhaps this scallywag was pulling your leg, the cheeky-chappy ragamuffin..?

Yeah we've had the tv media telling us for years how they're the most knowledgeable fan base.

Utter utter bullshit, but this myth persists, pool fans believe this of course, but they believe all sorts of crap,as has been proved.

Cheers "tache man", I think football just amplifies problems in individuals and society as a whole (jeez , am i getting a bit up my own arse?) In that not enough people question the way they act or what they say. They just do or say before thinking.
Yes, you can be proud, hopeful, boastful even, but then dont complain when others come to take a pop at you.
The old line of...he who is without sin.
We sometimes forget ourselves....but then that gives others to have fun at our expense...but then that gives this and all forums life.
I always laugh at those on here who keep on reminding Liverpool of the 30 year wait when they may forget your 44 year wait.
Or how there will always be a * when they may not feel that way if City win the CL....something which i may add I would be more than happy to see as reward for the last few years of effort and a FUCK YOU to UEFA.

But it is football and I / we love it.

That's all fair comment mate - and tbf most City fans of my vintage are well aware of some of the dodgier parts of our...errr...'istree!

The difference may be that we tend to revel in that quite a bit, rather than ignore it!

Yep, when I was studying (occasionally) in London I shared a house with a rag supporter and used to take great delight in reminding her of the fact that neither of us had been born when they last won the league. It then came back to bite me.
I think of the times my dad used to take me to Anfield, even to watch old Central league games, when we were on a high...and then think about watching Torben Piecnik, Barry Venison & David Ngog and have to just shake my head. We were truly crap from where we were. real mid table mediocre fodder.
We can now delight in this moment of success, but always with an eye to the fact that it may not last. celebrate too much and more ammunition for piss taking.
I think you hit the nail on the head though with the comment about "vintage"...with age comes a little bit of common sense...but only a little bit!

The thing with the above that I've highlighted, is that our fans (or certainly not a single one I have ever known) viewed it as 'our right' or 'our rightful place' to be winning or competing for it every year, like a significant number of yours and rags fans have, that's the BIG difference with that one for me, your 30 years of expectations far outweighs our 44 years, maybe that will change over the decades, who knows, hopefully not.

tbf, a few have slipped into that mode mate.

I agree to a point, but think it down to time and youth/vintage as to whether fans get complacent. Winning over one, two or three seasons is great, but I look back from my first game in '76 to when it came to a shuddering stop in '90. There will be many where success was all they have known and that complacency is what breeds that view of it being "our right". I mean I wouldn't mind betting that practically every Bayern fan thinks it is "their right".
I think you have to look at the league now and although Sky may be seen as an evil in one (or many) senses, the money they have pumped in to clubs has levelled the field to a degree. This has created more equality on and off the field which has to be a good thing. "Smaller clubs" (waiting for the comments about use of that phrase) can hold onto players and build teams which makes them better. It is therefore harder to win and hold on to success. Surely something that is good for the game and makes the league more exciting.
If it wasnt like that now and City were to continue with their doubles/trebles, leagues etc, then I think many a young city fan may fall into the trap of "our right".
