Still got my doubts about City as Pep hasn’t won an away knock out game for us past the quarter finals. He seems to over think situations which resulted in poor performances at Monaco, Liverpool and Spurs.
Liverpool’s style of play is more suited to the competition as they have the ability to be solid with 3 disciplined midfielders and switch it from front to back quickly and 2 full backs that can cause a lot of problems. Guardiola’s style of play is more mechanical and makes it easier for City to dominate teams in the premier league rather than adapt to one off knock out games.
Financial Fair Play?British clubs are never ever getting the benefit of the doubt at UEFA. This has been going on for time immemorial.
My point here would be that I don’t understand why it would be a big deal. Nothing UEFA have said or done have impacted you on the actual field of play, it’s just general sniping at the clubs. They don’t like us and never have. That the English teams are smashing the CL at the moment will be killing them. But if we look at the draw for the CL groups, neither of us have done too badly. Swings and roundabouts.
That's fairIt'd be nice to win the Champions League, but it's not something you can really plan for in the same way that you can with the Premier League. So many teams have failed to win the Champions League despite obviously being the best team around at the time, and so many other teams have won it when they demonstrably weren't the best. The Chelsea of the mid-2000s never won it, but then they won it when they had a pretty average team and a manager who a few years later was getting sacked by Aston Villa in the Championship. The reality of a cup competition is that it relies on a hell of a lot on luck, especially in the latter stage when you're always going to be facing teams that are capable of beating you on their day. A few dodgy decisions, a few injuries, or just an off day can lose the whole tournament for you. It's much harder for that to happen in the league.
Chelsea fans would probably point to decisions that stopped their Mourinho team from winning it, but would probably also concede that they had a bit of luck when they finally won it.
I think we know what happens at our own club thanks,we have serious reasons for hating UEFA and so boo their jungle,so do barca and other fans, you spent a fortune in the last 2yrs,klopp has had enough money to build a deep squad,we can only have the same size squad as anyone else,it's a mark of pep and the club to have spent the money wisely
Some very good points there. I totally agree about Guardiola overthinking things. That said, the players have to take some responsibility. But as the Telegraph article a few pages back said, it’s about amassing experience and knowhow in the tournament too. The players knowledge in that will only grow though.
To recoup so much just means you were a selling club when the bigger vultures circled, really nothing to be proud of!To compare the money both clubs have spent offers no perspective and insight into the debate at all. The facts are clear, no point in rehashing them. You say that we’ve spent a lot of money which is true but we’ve also recouped a great deal which you haven’t. That’s not a bad thing, it’s just the situation at hand. It seems like it’s you guys that have the issue with finances, not me, but let’s noy let this descend into a row, I’m only here to talk football
Fair question... Our players, manager backroom staff and our owners are desperate to win it. I'm pretty ambivalent on winning it such is the corruption, but I want us to win it ASAP because Silva Aguero and Fernandinho in particular came here not just for the money, but the long term project. They have been very loyal to our cause as was Zabaleta Yaya and Kompany who didn't manage to lift the CL trophy. I really hope that Silva(in particular) can bow out at the top winning the CL this season before he leaves. Here's hoping...
You constantly refer to net spend,it doesn't matter, klopp has had a lot of money to spend,he hasn't used it to build a deep squad like pep has,it doesn't matter where the money has come from,he had it to spend, you had the most expensive keeper and defender so you can't say we have more money than you lol,we never sell our best players we have have their best yrs with us,it's a bad thing your net spend because it comes from selling your best players! To compare the money both clubs have spent offers no perspective and insight into the debate at all. The facts are clear, no point in rehashing them. You say that we’ve spent a lot of money which is true but we’ve also recouped a great deal which you haven’t.
