Came across this account by Peter Doherty of a game in the War League North Cup against Liverpool at Anfield in 1944 which finished 2-2 after extra time, "... once again we had to fight it out to a finish. Both teams were completely leg weary, and another goal seemed highly unlikely. But as Jimmy Heale and I were heading the ball wearily to each other across the Liverpool goal mouth, Alec Heard suddenly nipped up and cracked the ball through for the decider. We were climbing gratefully into the bath while the Liverpool team, still out on the field, were claiming for offside!"
Some things never change!

Gonna be a ton of injuries for all teams again this season. Effectively 2 years of b2b football now. Season not even started and I'm hardly enthused about it. Been non stop since project restart and it wouldn't surprise me if there's a drop in quality overall this season. Players must be goosed.

An episode of Columbo, set in Liverpool, would have been great. Peter Falk wandering round in his usual, dishevled state and getting stared at in astonishment, as he's still the smartest dressed bloke those scruffy scouse cunts have ever seen. TV gold.
He'd certainly have his work cut out solving the crimes in that fuckin shit hole.

Just had a look at the teams Bilbao starting line up and all the subs are Spanish.

Homegrown policy. Players are only eligible to play for Bilbao if they have Basque ancestry, grew up developed in the basque region (covers some parts of France) or are Spanish and developed at another club in the Basque country (e. g. Real Sociedad).

Apart from a Bosnian (who was born and grew up in the basque country because his father was also a footballer) all players on their roster are Spanish.

I can see the plot taking a different turn...

I know it's crass to wish injury on players, I don't and it's not something I do, I felt (albeit limited) sympathy for VVD and gomez last season particularly as somebody who has suffered a lot of knee injuries myself. But, if you had to choose a player to suffer an injury, he would be at the very top of the list. Shithouse of a player, hard to find sympathy for a guy who actively tries to injure opponents.

You'll be surprised what strain the ankle can be put under with very little damage, that might not be as bad as it looks, it's slowed down too much to tell how long it was bent that way and how much weight was on it whilst in that position. Could potentially get away with a bad swelling but I'd be surprised if there wasn't ligament damage there. months rather than weeks. Milner back in his favourite left back spot.

So if we are rivals does that mean they care about us
The thing is, I doubt we'll be in anything like direct competition this season, fourth will be a very good result for them, they should be looking at the rags who apparently are their main derby rivals and ex-dip lover Bodgers, that's where the battle is for them not looking up at us.

I really like the post about refusing to play us. Arsenal, Villa, Liverpool, Everton, Spurs and Leicester have all greedily accepted our coin and would make them look the foolish hypocrites most of them are.
Perhaps LFC should withdraw from the CL and not play Real Madrid, Barca, PSG, and Bayern Munich either. When are Liverpool fans going to ask their owners what they have done with their huge revenues (just £8m less than us overall over the last five years)? Or they are going to be duped like the Arsenal fans were for years by their dodgy owners. It must be great for JW Henry to have the "evil Arab club" as a deflection tactic.

Coach wreckers up in arms after Warnock and Spackman made a joke about the ticket issues at yesterday's game. Unbelievably, some of them are equating the joke to the Hillsborough disaster and both have backed down and apologised to the baying mob.
