The word " salary " is a novelty to most of them !

Could have explained you were that devout that weekly immersive baptism was necessary!I used to pretend going to church every Sunday morning - going to the swimming baths instead. Got found out though when I came home with wet hair one Sunday and it hadn't rained that day.
Makes me wonder if the majority of City fans are catholic? The guilt, the self flagellation and trials of being sent to purgatory (or could that be York away...which of course everyone went to)... and then of course ascending to heaven after your penance. Those of us of a certain age, and a certain religious bent, had to learn the catechism off by heart. But, some of us were far more interested in following football and our true religion - all we ever needed to know was that, on the eighth day, God created Manchester City. (Why he saw fit to torture us for the best part of 40 years, I'm not sure, but, as I mentioned 'our kid' earlier, I blame him!)

My wife mentioned that her siblings and her were 'forced' to go to Sunday School every Sunday afternoon - she thinks that was for her parents to get them out of the way ------- wonders what for!
If people really looked back at " history " I think they would be very surprised with what they found. Its funny but I seem to be getting a few of those sort of videos in one of my feeds, think they are something like "give me sport".
Of course I know my "istree" but for most football started in 1992 and if you suggested that the likes of Preston or Huddersfield had won "the league" I suspect many a young fan would tell you to fuck off. But then how many of them were brought up waiting eagerly to get their copy of "Shoot" each week or actually enjoying going reading the "Rothmans"
I've bought every one religiously. Literally read the covers off my first. 992 pages, 18 shillings if I remember correctly.I studied the Rothmans League Book as a kid as if it was my catechism. It's been so useful in life to know I could recognise a team by it's away socks, and recite 92 different nicknames for teams.
Happy days. Jumpers for goalposts.
