my view is that the toxicity is 99% driven by fans on social media who never attend matches. This is then driven up by the media shills where is seems primary measure of success is engagement and hits. it becomes a never ending circle of hatred that now appears to permeate to match going fans.
I know quite a few match going Dipper's from before the rise of social media who are awful human beings when it come to football matters.

Have had dealings with them on so many levels and they are relentless in their pursuit if you are deemed to disagree with them on anything.
The likes of Spirit of Shankly/ Anfield Wrap are no different than their average fan on social media. They all ramp up the hatred against teams and fanbases. Especially ones who they see as rivals- it was Everton in the 80s and 90s and now it's United with a newer level of hatred against yourselves

Probably sticking my neck out here as a liverpool fan here...but

Its actually very interesting seeing views on the fanbase. For my part, one visit to RAWK is enough to be beyond embarrassed about some of the views, but mentally you try and relegate that to the 'every club has those type of fans' box.

Several of my closed friends are Man city loyalists, and I know several others, and I've never had any issues. Probably helps that you can actually have an intelligent discussion about football with them.

From a Liverpool standpoint, perhaps controversial but I actually fully acknowledge that city are the better pure footballing side (depending on what your footballing taste is). I don't necessarily agree that they are the better team, but obviously these things are pretty subjective.

But on the current thread topic - yep, there are some awful supporters out there. I trust the better ones aren't in the minority, but we do exist! ;)

Which goes to explain why they are media darlings, our beloved press see that to quote yourself "...they are relentless in their pursuit if you are deemed to disagree with them on anything", you could also say they same regarding their relationship and the 'look the other way at their antics" by Merseyside police and i also get the impression that they are seen completely different as a club and a fanbase to Everton by Liverpool City Council, the abundance of out of town support who visit Anfield are seen as a cash cow and nothing stands in their way when it comes to getting what they want from the city council.

One of them was mouthing off about how 'City couldn't even sell all their tickets for the derby against United this season' on Saturday evening in the hotel. I went over and put him straight (politely) and tried to explain we have a 'resale' policy as well so a game (not United - but any game) could sell out and then tickets would be on sale again but this doesn't mean it hasn't sold out it means people are reselling.
He couldn't understand the difference (predominantly down to just being stupid but mainly through refusing to listen to any explanation) and then his wife comically said "we are trying to have a quiet conversation here and 'you City gobshite' are coming over and talking this bollocks'. I tried to explain the irony of the fact I had 'come over' from 25 feet away in a crowded pub because I could hear their 'quiet conversation' over everything else but again - pointless. I just gave up but was amused to then hear their son singing "oh Manchester, is full of shite" in front of their proud parents that their 4 or 5 year old was singing songs like that. Classy bunch

The media rarely if at all will speak out about them especially after the treatment of the Daily Express journalist. The chief Of Merseyside police was a season ticket holder at Anfield so was he ever going to call them out or condemn them. The council as you say will do nothing because of the money they bring in.
The UEFA president Guillard who called them the worst fans in Europe and spoke of who else would rip tickets out of the hands of children after the CL final in Athens and citing how they had 25 incidents in Europe - and that was in i think 2009 !!

Obviously they don't know their own club because Liverpool have a resale/ticket exchange policy too for season ticket holders who can't attend. As it happens, Liverpool still had tickets available as late as this morning for tonight's game against United. Whether they were resale tickets or not I've no idea but it was only when they dropped the criteria to all members at the request of their fans that they sold out

wish I had googled their site to show them this!! Mind you wouldn't matter - when you explain things to them they don't listen anyway

The amount of Liverpool shirts and gear I'm seeing in public over here is incredible. I even saw the gasman in our local pharmacy the other day, who when once on a job at our house asked me where I was from and who I supported. I told him and he told me he didn't follow football. Saw him stood there in the pharmacy with a Liverpool away top on with a terrible smug head on him.

If we hinder these cunts in any meaningful way I am going to make Tony Pulis look like a novice.

In the early to mid 90s their attendances at Anfield were averaging around 30-32 k mark. Without the out of towners and corporate visitors now they would still be averaging around the same.

Has Alex Crook on TalkShite condemned this yet?

We’re going to be hammered tonight on social media and elsewhere when Liverpool fans do their minutes applause for Ronaldo, with the obvious comparisons to Saturdays minutes silence distruption.
Will make a change from hillsborough and Munich chants in this fixture

anyway, onto the game. Don’t see how United can get anything. They aren’t playing for their manager, aren’t working, it’s not as if they can sit back and rely on a strong defence, I don’t know how they play it at all and get anything other than a good beating.
They’re clueless in games against big sides.
Their only hope is Liverpool might be tired, but they’ve a big squad who they can rotate and still win comfortably for me

Not expecting anything
