The wall collapsing probably saved more lives than it took.
That’s what I have read as well.
I take an interest in disasters and tragedies, some say it’s morbid but I like to read up and watch stuff.

Some of the articles and testaments I have read and footage I have seen is harrowing. Reading some of the stuff from heysel survivors is horrible. Especially the dad whose son was a doctor who died after trying to save people.

What they lived through and survived will be as equally horrific for them to recall as those poor souls who were in the Leppings Lane and lived to tell the tale. Same for those who survived Valley Parade a week or so earlier.

Thing is, as much as they like to bang on about the City coach, my experiences with City fans have been pretty grim in recent years. Angry and aggressive. And they seem to have a tendency to fight amongst themselves also. In their mind the smashed coach window is a far worse sin then them doing bodily harm to people

We 100% have our wrong´uns as well. But it is clear they have a decent proportion of aggressive dick´eds.

==================================================================================================

These aggressive dickheads petal... how many walls have they pushed over on Italian supporters? How many paving stones have they dropped on Bulgarian waiters heads??

I'm amazed Everton came fifth in the table of supporter arrests... It seems the merseyside police force only turn a blind eye to one lot of their locals bad behaviour.
Their whole point about us being near the top of the arrests table is rendered largely irrelevant when you look at the actual figures. 76 arrests over a whole season out of 2198 in all 4 divisions for a year is next to fuck all. An average of 2 per match for us compared to just over 1 per match overall and 1.5 for the Premier League. It's hardly Ingerland levels where 85 were arrested in just 3 matches in Euro 2020.
The fact that the dippers can behave as badly as they want with impunity due to the inadequacy of the Merseyside "bizzies" isn't something to boast about.

If the scousers like breaking walls so much why don't the 'morally outraged' upstanding citizens of Dipperland break the wall of silence that is protecting the scum who killed a 9 year old kid?
Same reason Ian Brady's solicitor won't release documents that were left to him by the sicko even though they could lead to Keith Bennett finally being found and given a proper burial...they're scum, with no respect for human life.

The footage was shocking and what people have forgotten or don't remember is that there were more than a couple of charges across the terraces by them/Chelsea/ NF. Yeah the stadium was inadequate but truth is that without the rushes across the terraces possibly no one dies.

There was talk of a six part docu-series being released later this year called Heysel Bloc Z. Be interesting to see the reaction to it.

I remember watching a few documentaries a while back. I think it was around 2005 to mark 20 years.
They had Liverpool fans on and they were just blaming everyone else apart from themselves. I just find it so crass. Yes the stadium was shite but people forget most stadiums back then were crap.
What I found most distasteful was the claim that if the juventus fans had stood there ground and not ran then a tragedy would have been avoided.

Look I’m not for one second saying that those fans were looking to kill the juventus fans but unfortunately it worked out that way in the most horrific of circumstances.
As a club they should have admitted that and dealt with it. Rather you have Chelsea fans being blamed for it the next day by the Liverpool chairman.

I know Liverpool are probably ashamed of it and would rather it be out of the public eye but it did happen and people died.

Rather than hide away behind the blaming of uefa or the police or Chelsea they should take it on the chin and deal with it.

If they did I believe they would get a little bit more respect from other fans etc.
That some use heysel as a form of “banter “ by other fans is abohorent as is singing songs or mocking hillsborough because of heysel as in some way it’s justified because of it.

Both are horrific tragedies and both were totally avoidable and equally both are entirely different on circumstance and blame. For hillsborough I’ve read and watched a lot and although the police were under tremendous pressure that day wrong decisions were made that lead to the deaths of innocent people the majority of whom were kids.

The police that day had no intention of causing a disaster but one evolved before their very eyes and should have been avoided. To read that even after that maybe 30 or so people could have been saved of for correct medical attention does not bear thinking about.

The problem as well as Duckinfield lied almost instantly when asked what had happened. From then on there was no coming back and the chain of events then spiralled that they had to pin the blame on the fans.

Hindsight I know but sometimes holding your hands up and saying I’ve made a mistake, I panicked I’m human I thought I was doing the right thing to prevent death or serious injury from occurring outside.

Yes it would not absolved him or the police of blame but maybe it wouldn’t have taken 30 years of pain to get to the truth.

Sorry I’ve rambled on a bit there.

Both have a certain amount of similarities in that the police covered up for one and the fans the other. And in both instances I think had they admitted their failings more readily the public reaction may have been different. I heard first account experiences of Hillsborough and accepted a lot of things didn't add up and if you read the initial enquiry reports and Phil Scraton's book you get an even better picture of the conspiracy. Both were possibly avoidable in hindsight but a chain of events on both days led to innocent people being killed.
The cover up re Hillsborough started almost immediately and as you say immediately after Heysel their chairman tried to divert blame away from their fanbase. And now they use Hillsborough as a way of deflecting any blame away from them.
