The police had years of practice packing people into those pens. The crushes they caused were the reason we only went into the seats at Hillsborough and I still find it astounding that a large number of people involved that day didn't serve jail sentences.
I think one of the major contributing factors was that duckinfield had little or no football crowd experience and definitely not at the level required to be a match commander of a match of that magnitude. I’ve read that he didn’t even have a proper hand over from his predecessor mr Mole who was removed from post a few weeks previously after a stunt involving some officers went wrong.

When it stared to go wrong he didn’t react correctly and a chain of events soon spiralled out of his control and he panicked and made decisions that lead to people being crushed to death.

However there were a number of warning signs in the years leading up to that semi and should have been heeded but unfortunately were not.

I've had some very unpleasant experiences in those pens with police still packing City fans in an over filled terrace, while the pens next to us were empty. They completely ignored the pleas from us to open the adjacent empty pens until someone realised they had criminally over packed fans into a small area and gave the order to open up other parts of the terrace. Duckinfield was just a scapegoat. There were many more experienced officers, officials of Sheffield Wednesday and the local council who would have known for years that it was a death trap. They should have served time in prison and it shames this country that they didn't.

Anyone who remembers the 'bad old days' knows there were times when fans were crushed into inadequate spaces, and that there were dangerous crowd movements at times. To be honest, it amazes me deaths and serious injuries were relatively rare. A lot of the old grounds were hazardous if full, or near full. Many times I've been carried out of the Kippax in a crush at the end of the game with my feet literally off the ground. A laugh at the time, but anyone who went under would have been trampled to death.

Very much a case of: 'There, but for the grace of God, go I.'

Mrs Vienna said she experienced the same thing on several occasions.

Not a big fan of Klopp but I think this is a great answer to the TAA England question. Explains the tactical demands he puts on him, why that exposes him defensively, then says it’s entirely OK for Southgate to choose a different RB based on his style of play and goes on a detour to point out how stupid it is that pundits and media try to define world class players by the one thing they’re not world class at.

The kind of answer that should really stop him getting asked about it ever again, but knowing the media it’ll be asked post match too.

I saw this interview on SSN today & I may be mistaken but I thought he was saying TAA is good for their system but not a great defender
