I think 'fair and square' is pushing it when a lot of points were gained by fooling and pressurising weak and confidence drained referees. They gained a LOT of points by diving, handballing, kicking, pushing and various other acts of assorted shithousery, it's easy to play with confidence when you know you can get a free kick or penalty whenever you need one.Nah, they won the league fair and square that season. They were 20 odd points clear.
It’s just a shame there was no one there to see it.
They may have still won the league without VAR but "fair and square"? Not for me. When a team's main game plan is to create contact and deceive the referee then "fair and square" doesn't come into it.
The best I can say is that they took advantage of a unique refereeing situation and made sure they made the most of any advantage they were offered whether it was within the rules of the game or in the spirit of fair play or not (usually not).
