Got no problem with them booing the national anthem and wish more would do the same. They're making a protest about an archaic relic and without those protests nothing will ever change.

The fact that the Met saw fit to arrest and detain republican demonstrators yesterday says it all to me - absolutely disgusting
Both are just posturing. I'm not an ardent monarchist by any means but whether we have a hereditary monarchy or not makes little or no practical difference to anyone's day-to-day life.

this is what we should be protesting about, arresting people for having a placard in the hands. Slippery slope. in all of these places such as the met they have massive portraits of the monarch on the wall. makes joining an establishment like that problematic for many. You end up with a tribe / cult - which a lot of people tar Liverpool with on here so what's the answer, try and create a fair inclusive society...like a republic may be?
By the people, for the people.
In any country it should be all about the people.
If you look into the base cause of poverty around the world, it isn't a lack of resources that is the cause, it is establishments and elites usurping the rights of their populations and keeping them illiterate and powerless in order to exploit them.
You can see signs of it creeping into the body politic of this country day by day.

If they're booing the anthem down to personal choice/ hatred of the establishment and monarchy then I have no issue with that. But the impression I get is they're doing it as they believe it's part of the matchday experience and makes them edgy and controversial. By doing that they're bringing an element of shame on the city and club. A big part of their fanbase are from outside the city and few will have been affected by government decisions decades ago.

They purport to be this unique socialist club and maybe amongst their older fanbase that was true, I went school with many who were politically left wing but their fanbase now is totally different. They priced the local working class fans out of the stadium and they're not unique in that but they cling onto anti establishment mantra which leaves them open to massive claims of hypocrisy.

That’s exactly the reason they did it

Wheres our freedom of speech to sing 'always the victims'
This is completely different surely you see that? Don't get me wrong i think manty Liverpool fans are trying too hard to create some sort of rebel image. I'm a staunch republic, so just wouldn't get anywhere near the anthem, wouldn't boo though as there are people who love it. But to criticise republicans because they don't believe n the monarchy is a dangerous slippery slope, Met arresting people for the way they were 'thinking' yesterday is prime example

Did he really sign up for the queen? or to see the world, learn a trade have a laugh, protect mates? just a genuine question i think all the above aside from queenie is fair. I mean tbh they wouldn't put your dad out f he was on fire tbh, his mates would. Maybe he would have ran around protected an unelected extremely wealthy lady but then again maybe not
It doesn't matter what I think, or reasons for this or that - what matters to him is his queen. In his words 'I fought for my queen'.

So as much I don't disagree with you, I would guess that a lot of former military people feel the same and have earned me keeping my mouth closed for the national anthem.

I don't know maybe a % either way how do we know motives of individuals we haven't met - agree though that i bet there is a % that are trying to create some sort of image - if so that's pathetic. Others may have really strong feelings about tax payers money going to this fancy dress sham when Nurses are genuinely struggling ..just saying

Spot on pal.... that's what i mean so many have different motives, beliefs values. The right to voice these opinions is what makes a great free democracy. To criticise those who don't have same sentiments, and have the establishment shutting them down 9arests in London) is plain wrong and worrying

I get that, but having a 70-odd year old man child being proclaimed as better than everyone else whilst he's got a gold hat on his head pisses people off. It might make minimal difference, but the optics of it are enough for people to say 'not in my name'
