Their squad is huge and one of their problems will be shifting the players they no longer want. Looks like West Brom are interested in Lambert (which would have been an ideal destination for him last season) but he can't be worth more than 1 million if that now Liverpool have destroyed him. Who's likely to take a chance on Borini or Mario? Neither have had any meaningful game time and would both be a huge gamble just for that reason. Mario comes with more baggage than Joan Collins and salary demands to match so again, anyone willing to take a punt on him will probably want him for next to nothing. Lucas is a decent enough player who should bring in a few quid but overall their squad players are average at best. They do of course have Jordan Ibe who, according to the experts on RAWK, is 'the answer'.

Nottingham Forest used to be a big club

Depends upon your definition of big, however when all things are considered, they really didn't.

They won 2 European Cups, back to back, in 1979 and 1980, which obviously is a fantastic achievement, however when you consider the size of the fanbase, their worldwide appeal, and there overall successes, Forest aren't actually that "big" at all. Does a very small period of huge success make you a big side? Forest only ever won the league title once, in 1978. They won the FA Cup twice, once in the 1950's, and once in the 1890's! They've 4 league cups as well. So, top level trophy wise, Forest have won 9 of them, however 5 of those 9 trophies came in a 3 year period. 1978, 1979 and 1980 saw them win 1 league title, 2 European Cups, and 2 League Cups. So, in their 123 year history Forest won 5 trophies in 3 years, and 4 trophies in the other 120 (their other 2 league cup wins were also back-to-back by the way, in 1989 and 1990).

I suppose, if you're looking at a very, very small time period, you could argue Forest were a "big side" from 1978 to 1980. However the same could be said of many sides. Huddersfield Town won the league title in 1924, and 1925, and 1926. They also finished runner up in 1927, and 1928. In fact, if you look at the period 1920 to 1930, Huddersfield won 3 league titles (runner up twice, 3rd place once) and 1 FA Cup (runner up 3 times). They have far more right to say they "used to be a big club" than Forest do.

Sterling fee Liverpool received: £36 million

Benteke fee Liverpool paid: £32.5 million

That is absolutely shocking business from Liverpool.

Sterlings wage £35,000 PW
Benteke wage £150 000pw ?
Sterling money all gone

I haven't seen Benteke's wages (£150k a week) matched against Sterling's at Liverpool (£35k a week) in one media outlet.

I wonder why that is... to the agenda thread!

Forest were fortunate enough to employ the greatest, IMHO, British manager ever during that glorious period in the late '70s and early '80s.

I remember reading somewhere around that time that one club had fantastically overachieved for the amount of money spent and one club had dramatically underachieved for the amount of money spent during the same period.

The former was Nottingham Forest.

The latter?

Manchester City!
