Local Elections 2023

If you use your passport, does it have to be currently valid or will an expired one do? Because the passport office is another service they've made an absolute shit show of. I imagine there are plenty of people who just let them expire during the pandemic and haven't renewed them yet.

I took my expired one, current one and the driving license and handed them all over...... not sure whether the lass was overwhelmed with it all to notice or whether she just ignored the expired one though

Another trick being reported. They have to keep an official count of the number of people turned away for not having an ID, but that only applies if you are turned away by the polling officer. So they set up a meet and greet person/desk to remind people about the ID, and put signs up, which then doesn't count towards the numbers. No doubt we'll be hearing what a success it was when the 'official' count of the numbers turned away is in.

I went and voted today at the usual place. No bother with that, but what took me by surprise was having to vote for 3 candidates on the same ballot paper. There must have been at least 20 names on the list. I've never seen that before, so I have no idea how they count the votes. Do they cut the ballot paper up with a pair of scissors and put the marked crosses in tne appopriate pile for counting?

Anyway, when I was asked for my ID, I said 'voter surpression you mean', and the resigned look on the face of the lady handing out the ballot paper was priceless.

The guy sitting next to her was grinning like a Cheshire cat, but she just shook her head and said 'you're not the first to mention it'.

funny as fuck - Tory MP for Medway areas bemoaning losses and blaming it on deprivation and levelling up. He says that the levelling up money needs to be allocated to the South as well as the North...... daft fucker wasn't in the loop when they decided the reduced capital they had after leaving Brexit was at the gift of cabinet members so Sunak's leafy North Yorkshire affluent seat got cash but his area didn't - even some of their own didn't see the con

The marks tend to be very incapable of self awareness.

How does this voter ID work for postal votes? Tbh I agree with it in oldham its well known a lot of voting is done by individuals on behalf of others shall we say.

And more to the point there is absolutely no evidence whatsoever of voting fraud in the UK so why are we bothering with it in the first place? We know the answer to that but they are so incompetent they'll probably balls voter supression up too.
Was it Oldham or Rochdale where they actually took a couple of people to court for voter fraud?

plus:

"The local elections in Oldham in 2000 were overshadowed by allegations of vote-rigging and claims that votes in the names of dead people were cast. A police investigation led to a series of convictions the following year."

24.20% of people eligible voted in Salford!!! That is dire. Use it or lose it and with this government I would worry.
Could be wrong on this, but from what I can see online, the corresponding figure in 2021 was 28.41% and in 2022 it was 25.20%, so that’s a 4% drop in 2 years, and, if I’m not mistaken, the pandemic would still have been a factor in 2021. Quite a worrying trend.

Very disappointed. Been listening to Radio 4 for over an hour and I still haven’t heard a Government flunkey come on and say ‘a lot of good Conservatives have lost their positions through no fault of their own’.
