Looking down on 'glory hunters' is arrogance

Fortunately the haters are in the minority and act like a spoilt brat who does not want to share his toys with other kids or even worse acts like a playground bully targetting new kids.

They also come across like the uncle in fools and horses going on about the war, only in this case they were there when we were shit blah blah.

Perhaps they prefer that we had no success or exposure to attract new fans and we kept the 28000 - 30000 that we left Main Road with and we had mediocre players.

They go on about how the new fans are glory hunters and have only started to support us, since we started winning. How is some kid in a village in africa, asia going to know or be able to support city when we were shit when the only the exposure we had was comedy.

No one can argue that it was the fans who kept this club alive in the dark days and we should never forget that. I will admit that I did not go to
York away but I was there for all the home games during the Frank Clarke era, when the only things you had look forward to was the gallows humour and affinity showed by other blues.

I only hope that when new fans visit this site and read some of the hate posts they dont think it is a reflection of the bigger blue family, because it isnt. Ten years ago I was on holiday in northern spain and was wearing my city top. A group of spanish students were staring and one came across and ask me what was the club as they didnt recognise it . When I told them they had never heard of it. Is this what the haters want to go back to?
exactly.

Wow. Didn't realize there were so many proper fans who welcomed glory hunters. To be honest I'm just a 16-year old Indonesian kid.

I read a lot on the forum (every day about 4-5 threads) since I found it but I almost never post though, because I'm paranoid and I'm afraid people will bash me for being a kid/late football fan/glory hunter. This thread honestly reassured me that I won't always be bashed like that.

One last thing, I want to support City financially but that's impossible considering I'm a 16-year old who doesn't have much money, one US$ is about Rp.9000 (a cheap piece of bread is usually 1000) and the price of real football shirts are 200.000+ here!

Sorry about my bad English and/or manners. Again I am very paranoid.

Hello mate, just out of interest, you didn't buy a couple of City shirts off me on e-bay last year did you? It doesn't really matter if it was you or not, the point of me posting a reply was simply to say, that as a City fan I was probably more happy to send my old shirts to the other side of the world than I was about selling them to some kid in Manchester. I have a very simple dream in life, that there will be a day when you can say the name "Manchester" anywhere in the world and the automatic response is NOT "Un*t*d". You and other "NEW CITY FANS" like you are a step in the right direction and I for one welcome you as a supporter of MCFC. Spread the word fella, the more the merrier.

Oh, but don't ever dream of getting yourself a ticket to any of our games 'cause some people on here would consider that act more punishable than if you murdered their parents. (LOL)

If it gets to the point that I am unable to get tickets to games I would prefer us to go back to not being successful. Going to games means more to me than City winning trophies.

I hate glory hunters or glory seekers. Those who choose to support are club need to know a bit of are history.I know loads of liverpool and united fans who dont have a clue what there club have 1.

Some on here could accuse you of being a BM glory hunter. Its the responsibilty of all blues to teach our new blue brothers and sisters our history.

Latching onto a club because they have a chance of being successful, doesn't make you a proper fan of the club. It is the epitome of glory hunting. This kind of fan wasn't a fan when we were a troubled club and wont be a fan if we ever find ourselves in that situation again.

Supporting a player and taking an interest in the club that player plays for, doesn't make you a proper fan of the club. I've noticed the stark contrast in these people's views of other players in the squad other than the player they follow, the criticism of the manager when a player they follow isn't picked. Plus if the player ever left, the fan of the player would have no interest in the club anymore.

You don't have to be from Manchester or have been at Sincel Bank or the Moss Rose supporting City to be a proper fan. But there are differences between proper fans and non-proper fans.

Overall the most important thing that happens is that they buy merchandise and help us earn money as a club. It doesn't effect me as a person who follows my club for whatever reason they are choosing to, people can do what they like, but some aren't true fans of the club.

The only time it becomes a problem is when prices just go up so high and the fans with the most money are the only important ones, meaning some proper fans start missing out. As GSW said above (bang on too!) going to games means more to me than winning trophies does, so if it meant I couldn't go I'd just rather City weren't successful anymore so I could go. I went when we were shit and, on the whole, enjoyed it as much as any time in the last two years.

No. I almost never buy things online. Thanks for your offer, I'll definitely take it when I have the chance. That's a pretty specific dream. Wouldn't you rather dream of City dominating football as a whole? Nah that would be boring. There's a community of City fans here which started in 2010. They're pretty ignorant and mostly focus on retail. They finally have a Forum so hopefully even a kid like me can help "enlighten" them.

What? Seriously? Not even League cup 3rd round away games?!

Know what you mean. Nothing beats the matchday experience live. But if I had to trade my presence at the Etihad, for City being one of the most successful sides in Europe. i.e. Champions League wins, plus domestic honours. Then reluctantly I'd do it. I've followed my team since the mid fifties. And seen it all. But it's not about me. It's about City and our success. There's always the telly after all.
